Ok, so before jay jenkins became the platinum rapper / trapper Young Jeezy, he was Lil’ J. I know, it sounds somewhat ridiculous. As does this debut album, released in 2001.

I want you to listen to this joint and listen out for a few things. First and foremost is the lack of ad-libs. When jeezy came out, he was known primarily for his “HAHAAAAAAAAA” and his “YEEAAAAAAAAHHHH“, but these studio war cries are nowhere to be found on this project. Secondly, his voice is noticeably higher and squeakier, probably due to the fact that this joint dropped when he was like 22, 23. I also think he was outflowed multiple times by his guest appearances, and that the beats are weaker than my knees after I see a pretty Dominican girl walking around Washington Heights.

I guess what I really want people to do is tell me how they think Def Jam recognized potential from an album like this. The late and great Shakir Stewart must have had vision into the future, because he helped Lil’ J Jeezy achieve the superstar status he has now. and while the album isn’t completely horrible, it wasn’t anything i woulda been jamming in ’01 because there was so much better stuff coming out then. the A hadn’t quite bubbled yet, although J.D. and So So Def was delivering more hits than a ‘roid ragin’ Mark McGwire. I just wish I knew how he came from this young and rambunctious trapper to more introspective (maybe too strong of a word?) Jeezy we all love and respect now. Regardless, Enjoy the album, plus the two samples I’m throwing you in case you are scared to download the whole thing. I think it’ll be worth your time, whether you’re a big jeezy fan, or you just need a good laugh. It’s not that bad, but it’s just a crazy contrast to his new work.

yeah, that’s the longest title i’ve ever had on this blog. but this is pretty huge! bill o’reilly and dennis miller (yeah, the comedian. his political commentary is incredible though.) criticize rappers young jeezy and jay-z for their “my president is black” performance in DC over inauguration weekend.

i think that dennis miller keeps it as trill as possible, and while o’reilly is always a jackass, his reasoning is pretty sound. i hear both sides, though. they weren’t trying to be racist, but they were simply expressing their joy with the fact that just a couple decades ago, black people were being hosed, hung, beaten, killed, shot, for nothing. now, a person with the same skin tone is running the country. i can’t call it just yet. what do you think!?

everybody came out. wale was in there posted like a lamp, 9th wonder was spinning classics on the 1′s and 2′s, bun b was leaning a bit, and yelling out every word of every track 9th threw on the turntables (in a much higher-pitched voice than i would have expected. i mean, i’m not saying he had a high-pitched voice. but go listen to those tracks, his voice is booming. in person, it doesn’t really sound like that. just a mere observation. i know there are some co-signers out here on that statement!) i arrived as david banner was being escorted into the store from his luxurious whipsicle, and saw the big ass crowd that a party with this type of hype attracts. i was taken aback, but  luckily i caught j.ben.ok outside, and him and jay promo got me in that joint with the quickness. shout out to those two, otherwise i’d still be out in the cold.

once i got in there, it was glorious. i got a chance to chop it up with everybody. dizzy was in there, taking flicks like the local celebrity he is. X.O. and benji were in there having a great time. i finally met oddisee, the man who i used to harrass to help me make beats back two years ago. really cool guy, and my favorite producer out of the DMV by far. he can rap too, look out for some of his new stuff on here soon! oh, and  i had to school VJ on his twitter game, because it was limbo pole low. yikes. met a bunch of cool people, and saw some of the sexiest ladies i’ve ever seen in the area. i always feel like they only come out on nights like that, because i can’t ever find them otherwise. somebody tell them to holler at me, man. you already know i’m a shy guy.

highlight of the night? my man lucas hooked me up with the collector’s tees. you know i’m frugal, but i had to let people know i was around for the day history was made. 1.20.09, aka “yes we did day” in my book.

shout out to everybody who came out, and to stussy and commonwealth, for putting on something special, and adrian and the others involved in the coordination. that whole DMV scene, if i can call it that without sounding lame, is a great community. happy i’m a part of it.

this neptune-produced masterpiece was supposed to go on jeezy’s second album, but never saw the light of day. until right now. skateboard hits the hook and gives us a verse reminiscent of his tracks from his dj drama mixtape, "in my mind: the prequel". that joint was P at his finest. in fact, i’ma upload that for you all later in the week. but yeah, it’s a different jeezy. i’m still a fan though. definitely would have helped to balance out the abundance of trunk bangers he had on that CD.

UPDATE: i need to know if i’m going crazy out here. i knew this melody sounded a little familiar, and i’m like 60% sure that he just slowed down the hidden beat on the track “little suzie” off kelis’ wanderland album, and sampled just a small segment of it. somebody let me know if i’m tripping, please. the hidden track comes in at like 4:25. check it out and tell me if i’m right or not! it’ll drive me crazy all day if i don’t figure it out.

i think this may be the hardest joint on the entire album.

i figure cuz i’m springing these leaks, i should also bless you with the 808s & heartbreak commercial. wowzers. for a 20 second commercial, it’s extra vicious.

everybody is putting up the lackluster “put on” video up. and i did too. until i realized the video was slum. they don’t even the crucial part where kanye breaks that joint down on that voice box. without that, i’m blown. live version is more…well, live.

so let’s get to my homies o’ and teju. aka the naija boyz. sure, they are late as $#!t remixing this joint, but they absolutely kill it. nigerians, rejoice. if i’m late, i don’t give two damns. jam it. props to tahir.
