horchata. vampire weekend. DCtoBC.com.

Pigeons and Planes just gave me an extremely, extremely trill joint from indie rock / pop / folklore band Vampire Weekend. The Columbia University grads sound like Paul Simon in 2010, and I’m all about that. This new joint is called “Horchata”, and it’s the first single from their upcoming album, Contra. I hope they named it after the video game, but I highly doubt it.

I’m sitting here jamming while trying to figure out what the meaning of the song is. Those xylophones are something special though! I’m about to get some horchata in December and just sip it. Sounds great.

vampire weekend you need to know about vampire weekend.

i’m all about expanding my musical palette, and columbia university grads turned indie rock band vampire weekend did just that for me not too long ago. my homie kyra tried to put me on at the end of the summer, and i dug what i heard, but somehow their jams didn’t get the proper rotation in the iTunes library. at all!

luckily, i caught them performing with electrofunk duo chromeo on a re-run of MTV2’s woodie awards this past weekend, and they really wowed me. i thought it was just the mood i was in after all those grey goose (actually, it was pinnacle. don’t let me hype you, guys. the liquor i drank was a grey goose knockoff. i’ll admit that early. i couldn’t afford the goose.) shots, but nope. i jammed it again, and checked that performance out again, and i felt even better about them. i’ll throw you that video of that live performance along with a few loosies, and you tell me how you feel.
and DO NOT STOP WATCHING THAT VIDEO. homeboy on the keys hits ‘em with that auto-tune, and he’s nice. you want to hear that part. trust me. and their sound is so unique. you can hear remnants of every style and genre of music imaginable.
