re-up. enough people didn’t get this joint, it’s way too trill for people to miss it.

off of tabi’s new album, coming soon (it’s either fresh or superstar, as he has two more albums coming. he’s on that plies album release schedule – every few months, baybeh.) probably my favorite of the tabi songs i’ve heard. the beat is too vicious, and the title alone deserves applause. raheem needs more respect in the R&B game, too. he’s top 5 in my opinion. show him that R-E-S-P-E-C-T! i’m demanding it now! his voice is sweeter than a plate of yams. with extra syrup. oh boy.

nah, this joint isn’t new. in fact, it’s from ‘06 or so. he has a video for it. and it’s below. but i wanted to let people see it, because not that many people ever caught it on MTV jams like i did back in the day. and this is how i feel right about now.

i was talking to somebody about having a soundtrack to my life, you know? like you walk around, and music related to the situation just starts playing. it beats an iPod, because you don’t have to search. it’s just exactly what needs to be played at that very moment. maybe i’ll work on developing that technology soon. but for now, just look out for my compilation mix joints. it’s the next best thing that i can offer.

if you liked the song, here it is.

tabi bonney – radio [feat. curren$y] + rich kids.

my man jamie from funkadelic freestyles over at GWU in DC keeps me very in tune with the local scene. his radio station is ridiculous, probably the illest on the east coast, and on top of that, he supports DMV artists harder than anywhere i know! he’s a trailblazer. that’s why he put me on these new tabi bonney joints, off his new album, DOPE.

on "radio," tabi recruits former cash money representative curren$y, and they both kill it. the second joint is produced by ski, the same dude responsible for a lot of jay-z’s reasonable doubt beats, as well as a rack of those early camp lo records.

random, but has anyone ever heard tabi curse!? i’m just asking. and wasn’t the first album so hot? or was that just me? ha. anyway, look out for the album is stores everywhere, as well as his video on MTV and VH1.

DC’s own kenny burns started a vicious podcast known as the kenny burns show, and he just keeps it so funky and original that i needed to post this. he’s funny, too. tabi makes a bunch of appearances in the joint, too. i highly recommend watching this entire episode when you get a chance.

marky & tabi discuss "sheila" video shoot.

Filed under: audio/video, welcome to DC

tabi bonney is once again stepping behind the camera to direct the hit single “sheila” from DC’s newest talent, marky. i feel like this joint was a summer anthem at every cookout, barber shop, house party, and club back home, but i haven’t been there to confirm.

youtube is a hell of a marketing tool. like he said, shooting begins downtown in DC, august 10-11. all sexy ladies, please make an appearance. if not for his sake, for mine. i’ll be down there posted. marky, i need air footage! or a drop or something! if you stay on DC to BC, you’ve already got some marky in your itunes. if you’ve been sleeping, it’s ok. i got you.

and if you want to know what else is on tabi’s mind besides directing these days, check our our exlusive DC to BC interview here.

but i’m not done. don’t you guys think that mr. markyalago…

looks eerily similar to BC’s star wide receiver, #18 (and featured in the DC to BC banner on the top of the page) rich gunnell!?

5 questions with DC's own tabi bonney.

l f0d074d88351481fba6d1de794988c5f 500x280 5 questions with DC's own tabi bonney.

i got a chance to chop it up with DC’s tabi bonney about a few things that aren’t typically asked in Q&A sessions. although the west african-born rapper/director/fashion guru is fairly new to the spotlight, don’t get it twisted; he’s been putting people in the pocket for a minute. with videos (one of which was nominated for a VMA) all over MTV and VH1, a high end fashion line taking over boutiques across the globe, and the swag and charisma unmatched by anybody you or i know, tabi’s enjoying life these days. enjoy.

what means more? fortune or fame? or is there something else that tops it all?

i can honestly care less about the fame. i’m really a behind the scenes type of guy and don’t like alot of attention, so i would obviously pick fortune. but the thing that tops it all for me is happiness and freedom. freedom from working for somebody.

preach! what kinda cell phone are you working with these days?

the new iPhone. had it the day it came out.

shoulda gone with the blackberry, man. speaking of which, is there anything crucial on your wish list? gear wise, ambition wise, etc.?

i wouldn’t call it a wish list, more like a goal. my next goal is to hit the 1 million dollar mark.

damn. i hear that. i’m tryna get there myself. seems like you’re already on the way. what’s it like working in both fashion and music, anyway? is there preference?

my first love is music, then film, then fashion. it’s great though. it’s like visually creating your own world and environment and having your own soundtrack to go with it. imagine being on malibu beach with a girl wearing your shirt – bonney runway, that is – and hearing your music in the background!

haha, you got it all planned out, huh. dream job? i’m doing it and living it. and i don’t even consider it a job!

and there you have it. tabi is currently working on his follow up effort to his debut LP, a fly guy’s theme. buy it here. he’s the dude in the DC to BC banner holding up the “run DMV” shirt. go figure. jam a little, why don’t you.

[video] mambo sauce – welcome to dc [re-up].
Tuesday July 08th 2008, 2:50 am
Filed under: audio/video, introducing..., welcome to DC

i’m putting this up again because it was overlooked, and because the dc music scene is insane right about now. bubbling in a pot, brewing and stuff, young. trust me.

shout out to young nando mcflyy who made it on the myspace monday segment of 95.5 last night. even bigger shout out to quinn, who hooked it all up. more on this later.

my homies over @ DC fab told me that DC’s premier go-go band, mambo sauce, celebrated their video’s acceptance into the VH1 soul rotation. i’m pretty sure it’s on MTV2 and probably MTV jams. only a matter of time til it hits TRL. oh boy.

pretty huge move for DC, honestly. almost as big as when ludacris performed pimpin’ all over the world with a go-go band on one of those award shows, or as when lil jon came out with that go-go record with funk flexx on that crunk juice album. it adds that visual to the entire scene.

we through the remix up (featuring tabi, wale, and more) lightyears ago on the old blog, so if you want it, hit me. too lazy to throw it up right now. i did get that video though. low budget, but incredible. don’t just watch, though. listen to what they’re saying in the verses. one of the rare go-go songs with some potent, original lyrics.

bladaow.
