john hughes was incredibly inspirational in my life, and i didn’t even realize it until yesterday. i never knew the man made some of my favorite comedies ever, and it’s only right that i pay tribute in two ways.

the first thing i’ll do is throw you a HD (hella dope) quality version of my favorite hughes film, the breakfast club. not familiar with it? do some wikipedia research if you’re hesitant. if you trust me, then just know that it’s about a bunch of strangers that cross paths on one weekend afternoon in high school detention, and it’s ingenious in every way possible. enjoy.

the second thing i want to do is direct you to the most solid imeem playlist ever. it’s a compilation of songs from soundtracks of his movies. the 80′s and 90′s had some awesome soundtracks. in fact, back then, the soundtracks had the capability of going gold or platinum, and people took them seriously as opposed to you would a transformers soundtrack found in the checkout aisle in walmart. for the jams (a streaming playlist, not a download), click here.

this is late, and i know that. but i’ve been busy.

damn. we’ve lost the most influential musician of in my lifetime. the reason i love music is because of this guy, most definitely. his name was among my first few words as a child, i kid you not. my dad told me that a few days ago. i used to dance in the living room to his music, turning the volume up so high that glasses would break from the noise.

he changed the music industry entirely. as martin lawerence said, he’s the only guy who could sell out a concert in bucharest, romania, with ease. his music was so powerful that it made people believe in themselves. inspiring, to say the least. small villages in developing countries are familiar with his legacy. his music videos were in actuality short films. nobody can emulate him and pull it off; the bar has been set entirely too high, and while i’d like to see somebody attempt to reach that level of influence, in my eyes it will be impossible for any soul to have the affect that michael has had on the world.

instead of throwing up a whole bunch of rushed tribute songs, i’m keeping it mellow. my mourning will be in the form of celebration, jamming everything i have that the man has been a part of, as well as brushing up on my jackson family knowledge. watching every obscure interview and epic music video that the internet allow me to get my hands on. if i find anything i feel like sharing, i’ll throw it up.

damn. actor and comedian bernie mac passed today, august 9th due to complications of pneumonia. the man will definitely be missed. one of the funniest guys to ever do it. read CNN’s story here, and check him at his finest in the video below. rest in peace.
