The blog comment frequenters and obnoxious tweeters of the music world often chastised the DC hip hop pioneer Wale for allowing Gucci La Flare to bless the second verse of his (in my opinion) most radio-friendly hit yet, “Pretty Girls”. That song should do damage around the nation if things go as planned.
I personally loved Gucci’s verse, and adding him included a whole new demographic that Wale probably owuldn’t have reached if Gucci Gucci didn’t bless the track. But that’s besides the point. For those who couldn’t feel that version, DMV crooner Raheem DeVaughn heard your cries for help and has come to the rescue. He and 21-year-old Phil Ade, his solo signee (also from our area. And he’s Nigerian. Let’s go.) to his newly formed imprint, 368 Music Group, decided to put their own spin on the ode to bad ass females. I appreciate both versions, and it’s cool to have an unofficial DMV Remix to the song that goes harder than most joints in the clubs these days. No new verse from Mr. Folarin, but that verse didn’t need to be upgraded.

If you need more Phil Ade in your life, you can grab his critically acclaimed mixtape that I posted here a while back. HERE you go. New mixtape, The Letterman, dropping soon. I was fortunate enough to be in the stu’ with him and various producers and I’m gonna say this now…he’s about to turn a lot of heads. The only reason you probably haven’t heard about him is because he’s too humble to talk a lot of sh!t.
He can perform well, too. Don’t believe me? Check out this footage taken by 1st Impression Studios.

re-up. enough people didn’t get this joint, it’s way too trill for people to miss it.
off of tabi’s new album, coming soon (it’s either fresh or superstar, as he has two more albums coming. he’s on that plies album release schedule – every few months, baybeh.) probably my favorite of the tabi songs i’ve heard. the beat is too vicious, and the title alone deserves applause. raheem needs more respect in the R&B game, too. he’s top 5 in my opinion. show him that R-E-S-P-E-C-T! i’m demanding it now! his voice is sweeter than a plate of yams. with extra syrup. oh boy.

i won’t lie. i don’t know much about this guy, but he’s nice. nobody ever e-mailed me his stuff except my homie major from goadome talk, and i don’t even know why. he’s a nigerian-american like myself, and he’s from maryland, like myself. so i already support the man. ha. R&B crooner raheem devaughn has recently signed him to his boutique label, 368 music group, and that this mixtape dropped sometime last week.
my hunch is that there will be comparisons to wale, because they are both nigerian and from the area, and their flows are somewhat similar. but i think his flow and subject matter distinguishes him enough for the chit chatter to cease. i wish i had more info about the guy; i don’t have a bio for you because i didn’t do thorough research. sometimes it’s better like that, and i can be pleasantly surprised like i am now. i’ll make sure i’ll keep an eye out for his future projects. jam a couple samples, and get the mixtape below.

let me know how you feel about the project via the comment section. if you caught the post i did on sneakerpimps DC, the flyer tells me that he’ll be performing alongside clipse, wale, kingpin slim, and other area artists this upcoming weekend. i heard his stage presence is pretty vicious, so catch him there and be your own judge.
the DMV collaborates once again as recent howard university graduate and superb rhymeslanger ice the villain recruits PG county’s raheem devaughn for this classic-sounding, feel good jam. i can hear this at a night time barbeque, seeing old people stepping to this. ha! from raheem’s upcoming mixtape, art of noize, dropping june 15th.

yeah, that’s right. i’m back to posting that DMV stuff. i figure, i’m finally here for a while, why not embrace this beautiful scene that’s developing!? cut me slack! i was going through some things.
really, it’s very solid. hearing a complete, well-produced studio album like that reminds me how much more crucial a successful artist with a record deal can make an album sound. that budget is something serious, and consequently, it brings out the best in somebody. you can jam that in a whip and it sounds as serious and as powerful as the musical score from the godfather.
since we love to support the DMV, i thought i’d throw a nice track from the game’s 3rd LP that features R&B crooner and PG county rep, raheem devaughn. everybody needs this in their life! look out for “L.A.X.” to drop on august 26th.

new beat, new verses, new everything. and i know exactly what you’re thinking. who is that dime and a half?! that’s the beautiful vocalist featured on the track, 19-year old robyn janelle. she’s from bowie, maryland, and she recently was signed to geffen/interscope. like i’ve been saying, welcome to f^&#ing DC.
i bet you it tops the charts back home by the end of this week. you heard it first second here. heather wins the title for #1, as usual. but at least she gave me a head’s up though.
let’s get it.

and if you need the original version, i got it for cheap free here. and if you want to see some crucial youtube vids of ms. janelle in motion, i got you on that too. somebody tell robyn to holler @ me, man. facebook, AIM, something. good grief. tell her i’ll take her out to cheesecake or something crucial like that.
update: the man judah laced me with a glorious track from raheem off of dj jazzy jeff’s the return of the magnificent jazzy jeff which dropped a few years back. enjoy.

i’m still a dmv representer. and raheem devaughn is officially the most successful DMV’er besides dave chappelle and martin lawrence. maybe i’m wrong. but i don’t care. his first album is on my “night time maneuvers” mix. that’s the mix you throw on when a girl sleeps over. holler if you need it. it’s done me great work.
whatever though. homeboy was on ellen de generes the other day, and murdered it. even my man (and fellow def jam intern) eddie saw his show and went wild. he’s better than usher, vocal talent wise. and yes, today is the day of HUGE claims. i did just say that. voice wise, raheem > usher. his voice is like butter. it’s the voice that’ll get a girl out of her dress and into your bed. after the first verse.
