the great progression (“the gee pee”). the movement you’ve heard about, but have yet to see actually move. well, it’s finally upon us; all i need now is funds to make the dream a reality. yeah, you heard me. the moola and the guap, like wiz said on his album. what better way to donate to a good cause than to throw a video game sports tourney / kickback on the eve of sunday, october 10th?NBA 2K11 dropped (with a playable michael jordan, who you can see in the background!), recently; we’ll be playing that on PS3. but while we’re at it, we might as well pay homage to dreamcast, a system so ahead of its time the industry couldn’t handle it. it dropped on 9.9.99, and 2K premiered its first game, NBA 2K, on this console.
we’ll have two screens going all night; one with the newest 2K offering, and the other with vintage dreamcast 2K sports games (NHL, NBA, and NFL. we ain’t playin’!). suck at video games? so what? come to support! we got jenga, connectfour, uno, taboo, music, and great people to keep you occupied. $5 to fall through (larger donations welcome). it’s in g-town; e-mail modi[at]DCtoBC.com for the address. complimentary cocktails by belvedere, the best vodka in the biz.
Yeah, you read it. Starts tonight at 8pm. You don’t have work tomorrow, so don’t even fake like you do. Feel free to bring more beverages to spice things up, too. Could be some surprises there, too. You never know…!
Not in town/can’t come out to support, but still wanna donate!? We appreciate that! Check out our donation link below.
Links riiiight to my PayPal account. If you’re curious, the funds you donate will help pay for the beautiful website as well as any fun events like this that we have in the near future. We appreciate you! Do me this favor and tweet about the event via this twitpic link: http://twitpic.com/2wdv0e. Thanks for supporting another DC to BC/The Gee Pee-powered gathering, and hopefully you’ll enjoy it like the last joints we’ve had.

My man Callender hit me up to be a part of the New York City leg of this marvelous national tour with Big K.R.I.T., Smoke Dza, and my Curren$y, aka $pitta, aka the trillest lazy flow in the game.
October 5th, 7 – 11:30pm. $20 pre-sale and $25 at the door. Purchase your tickets ASAP (here) so that you don’t get to the door, muttering angrily under your breath about how outrageous it is that these tickets sold out on you like that.
There’s also a bunch of solid guest acts, including Pittsburgh’s Mac Miller. I say grab the tickets, and then come say what’s up. I’ll be there, posted like a stamp with my small but satisfactory squadron of scrambling scholars. Shout out to Heather, GFC, 2 Dope Boyz, and the rest of the folks on this event with me. Fall through!

The Great Progression is at it again. Me and my DC to BC, LLC team jump on concerts, while my project, entitled The Great Progression (or “The Gee Pee” for short) focuses on the good times. You saw our last cookout, right? If not, check out video footage here (I see you, Lifah!). It wasn’t a game. As many as 300 people came out to enjoy the best cookout and kickback of 2010. Maybe even in the last five years. It was that monumental. Everybody just came out to connect, politic, ditto. I couldn’t have been more happy with how every thing turned out. When The Gee Pee drops, look out for the photos and more video footage from that.
On to the next one, though. And the next one is this weekend at the Donovan House in DC, on the rooftop. BRING OUT THOSE TANKINIS AGAIN, LADIES! Saturday, July 17th. People are coming from hours away for the sake of good times! Do you realize this? Our parties aren’t to stunt. They’re for people to get together and talk, and to inspire and motivate. We don’t even make money like that on these. We just do it for the love, and to break away from the typical “event” where you have promoters yapping to you about bottle service and you’re worried about looking cute for people. Eff all that. This is the real deal, Holyfield. HUGE shout out to Lunchbox Theory for putting this joint together; it’s really them that brought The Gee Pee and YEBies on board, but we will do our best to make sure the mix of people is phenomenal, per usual.
In closing, if you’ve been to any of our (Lunchbox Theory, DC to BC / The Gee Pee, or YEBies) events, then you’ll definitely come through to this joint. If you need to be persuaded, then do some research, ask around. They’ll tell you who throws the trillest stuff in this area. Fall through, we’d love to have you. Click the flier for more info (or here. But how much cooler is clicking the flier, you know?)
It’s free, by the way. Yeah. top that sh!t. I double dog dare you.
did i ever tell you guys that the guy above was my landlord for the summer of 2007?
ok, let me explain. if you’ve ever seen the best show on TV, the wire, you’d know that gbenga akinnagbe (silent “g” in the first name) portrays chris partlow, arguably the craziest, most intense character in the show.
he’s like me. kinda. he’s from montgomery county, maryland. he grew up about 15 minutes from my house. he’s also nigerian, as i found out when he called me after replying to his craigslist ad for subletting an apartment. he started speaking to me in yoruba, because he knew my family was from that part of nigeria just by reading my name in an e-mail. when he discovered i didn’t know what the blood he was saying, he laughed and we got down to business. a week later, i was furnishing his extra large 4-bedroom jumpoff.
like i said, i found his apartment on craigslist. it was listed in washington heights, home of the haze/dominicans/arroz con pollo on every corner. 163 and broadway, man.
he was definitely a nice guy, although every time he asked for the rent, i almost shat my pants. why, you ask?
that’s why. try not paying the rent to that guy. your body will be floating in the mississippi river.
i was one of millions anxiously waiting the debut of this video on herfection some months ago, after my homie kyra put me on to this guy’s 25th hour mixtape a while back. i haven’t heard much from this guy since the video dropped, so i’m throwing it back up in hopes of a resurgence of dom kennedy love!
what up, left coast? this is your newest MC. embrace him, put him on remix tracks, and give him some radio play. thanks.
damn. if that’s what cali is like, then it truly is active.
finally. the wait is over. eat this joint up, and pass it to everybody you know. my man x.o. blessed me with the joint extra early so i could debut it on the blog. pass this to everybody you know. album art is extravagant, and it’s 20 songs of fire. production by local cats, too, and honestly, i love pretty much every song. i enjoy seeing progress and improvement, but x.o. has surpassed that. the man is spitting fire that has major label execs on his tail. you heard it here first, so just know that. hit the album art to get the takeover pt. 2. bump d’wayne and his slum carter 3. it’s about jamal aka x.o. and the takeover. it begins now.
like i said, click that album art to get it. and for anybody scared to take the chance on adding like 100 mb to their itunes library, i’ll give you a test drive, courtesy of us and nahright. yea, he made hip hop’s biggest blog already.
check the last x.o. post to scoop his single, “rid’n,” featuring wale. and other blogs, feel free to snatch this joint and put it up.
(note: if you’re not in DC right now, this post is worthless. go read the other stuff below this post to be entertained.)
the dmv won’t stop pushing until they are recognized as a place that breeds hip hop. the dudes over at inner loop, along with their sponsor roland, decided to take things a step further with a crazy exclusive producer showcase. first of it’s kind as far as i’ve heard. the 3 day extravaganza pops off today, and goes until saturday. it looks like it’ll be pretty solid, and features a whole lot more than just a mere beat competition. some celeb appearances, some major label head honchos, some interesting panels, and some nice parties. if you’re in the music thing, this is your weekend to shine.
exclusive. off of the takeover: pt. 2 mixtape, dropping 6.1.08. i’m excited after this, and you all should be too. i’m pretty sure we’re the only dudes who have this joint. thank us later. get more x.o. here, and shout out to everybody in the dmv who has been supporting his hustle since day one.
is it crazy that i’ve seen the roots in concert twice, and i still want to keep seeing them?
of course not. you know why? it’s because black thought could be my favorite MC i’ve ever seen perform live, besides lupe in atlanta and rakim/common (they tied, but are both extremely ridiculous!) at that park in brooklyn last summer. plus, each band member has a crazy vibrant personality. did you see the lead guitarist make his guitar cry last time!? and don’t forget about ?uestlove! the only drummer who has a library worth of vinyl. IN HIS HOUSE.
i got the new album, rising down, in the mail yesterday from an undisclosed source.
yes, i took a picture. everything from the album art to the concept to the actual tracks is vicious, young. DC’s most powerful mover and shaker wale is on the joint, too, which is like the cherry on top. and yes, me and quinn had him on the radio show last month. for like 2 seconds. but hey, we tried.
the two videos released definitely do some serious justice to hip hop, cuz i swear i was about to abandon the genre and have discobelle as my home page, young. check the joints out below.
peedi crakk steals the show in my eyes, definitely his best flow since “fall back”. plus, i kinda like the way the video is shot. it’s like “the office” gone wrong. matter fact, i’m bout to go watch that show. but uh, roots & erykah badu will be at constitution hall on may 14th and 15th. both shows start @ 8, and i’ll be at both of the joints with my squad. see y’all there.
UPDATE: the duke came with some HEAT. busta and spliff star rhyming over the “get busy” beat.

i’m in the house right now. laying in my parent’s bed, watching kobe and the lakers rock kirilenko and the jazz. and it’s the 3rd quarter…looking something like this:
good grief. remember when everyone in the world hated kobe? he was public enemy #1…a rapist in the eyes of the WORLD. now he’s the NBA’s mvp, rockin’ bammas and stuff, young. and he’s even a family man. don’t believe me!?
told ya. easily the best player in the league. swag is similar to MJ’s. i’m calling the lakers champions right now, by the way. their starting five is ALL scorers.
can we talk about home though? damn. i finally made it. 3 suitcases, a backpack, and a U-Haul (thanks, marcel) later. first thing i did? burned some CD’s for the stereo downstairs, because i’m home alone like macaulay culkin. i have the entire house to blast the most bass-heavy joints i have in the iTunes. then i hit the diner. and tomorrow morning, i’m picking up grand theft auto IV from that best buy on rockville pike. then i’m done for the week. i heard the game is so good, you start walking around in real life, acting like you’re the main character. chappelle told me.
oh boy. nyc on friday to peep the apartment in brooklyn. holler at me if you’re around for the day. 3 days til glow in the dark tour in DC, 4 days til the glow in the dark in VA beach. yea, i got two ticket joints. let’s get it. i would bless you all with music, but i’ma leave it to my homies at 2 dope boyz. they got all the good stuff, anyway.
the game is 93-83 @ the end of the 3rd, with the lakers up. we aren’t losing this game. yea, i’m a lakers fan. cali trip? in a few weeks. whose tryna make the move?
