“she’s a, digital girl in her digital world / fakin’ in the cyberspace, get wit’ it, girl.”

the 9th wonder-mentored M1 Platoon are quickly becoming one of my favorite hip hop groups. yeah, i just said that. this just boosted them a bunch of spots, combining that old school hip hop feel with the new age reality that is the cyber world. my favorite song of the year. say what you want. you know i’m all about the digital world, so what’s wrong with a digital girl!?

the beat is spacely (meaning of space age quality). the lyrics are so candid and i feel all of it. arafat (he produced the beat) talkin’ that talk the beginning, and hits that little melodic flow a la nelly (or i guess these days, i gotta use cudi as the comparison), and then chopps, markee, sean, and scoopay drop their verses.

press play before you read a cot’ damn thing. and note: this idea wasn’t brought up by me. it was a friend’s idea, and i thought the question was valid. plus, the song goes so well with it, i needed to actually see what the masses thought about the combo of the question and the song in one blog post. ha.

simple as that. DC heads, you already know what a “rolla” is. for the people not from around that area, urban dictionary can define it for you:

someone (usually a female, but can definitely be applied to males as well) who will have sex with anybody/everybody and continuous to next guy after guy/girl after girl. also has an additional connotation of a person that gives oral sex.
“man she a rolla!”
“i don’t mess with rollas”

the meaning of word basically means moving on to next guy to next guy (or girl), you’re rolling around. that’s why the word is called “rolla.”

so tell me, guys. could you? don’t lie. let’s talk about it. and that song you heard above was from M1 platoon’s mixtape, available here. so get that (or if you just want “wife the rolla”, here it is. but you should get the whole thing too.), and then discuss. ok? ok!

and if that sample they use sounds familiar, it’s because it’s from stacey epps’ “floatin”, which you can jam and download below.

i’ll give you an idea of how good m1 platoon is.

i sent this mixtape to people in an email before even posting it. meaning i didn’t care that they got it from my site. i just wanted them to hear m1. and i swear to god this joint is incredible. nothing sounds like this at all. if you appreciate GOOD HIP HOP, then m1 platoon should be in your iPod, iTunes, boombox, car stereo, and every other place you can jam some music.

you haven’t heard about these dudes? well, they’re a rack of homies (most of which are from DC. just throwing that out there) who go to school out in north carolina, and who happen to have 9th wonder, producer extraordinaire, as their professor. i’m not even lying. so with 9th as their mentor, imagine what kind of music they create. in fact, you don’t even have to imagine, because i got it all for you right here. featuring biz markie, carlitta durand, g5 clive, and savin. oh, and huge shout out to vaughn aka arafat yates, one of the rhymers/producers in the squad. one of the few guys who gets really excited about music in general. i respect those kind of cats out there. without further ado, i’m throwing you the mixtape, complete with taste tests.

and i honestly struggled giving you 3 samples, because there’s too many joints on this mixtape that are must-hears. i’ve never heard such improvement from one mixtape to another. lyrics, beats, overall cohesiveness. damn. THIS SHIT IS INSANE! i’ve never heard anything like it. that’s probably why they called this joint “we not them.” good grief. i’m hyped. everybody needs to enjoy this. and if my words didn’t move you to download this, then click the link and see how many people already have got it. that’ll probably move you a bit. ha. wzup scoopay, chopps, sean d, c4 black, napalm…i see all you guys.
