Cush Cush – Overachievers.

yerp. your local clutch city DJ’s are back at it. you may remember when i dropped the last cush cush joint way back when. but it’s ‘09, and dj’s ace boon coon and b*luxe aren’t playing games. at all. one super-track that’s essentially 53 minutes of mayhem, baby. music selection is more eclectic and diverse than new york city. need to throw a party but have no DJ? throw this joint on. trust me
my man brandon “DJ B*Luxe” luckett told me about this lovechild that is his latest mixtape. the tape was crafted for a clothing label, Overachievers and modeling agency, Page Parkes, and features everything from old school rap to reggae to soft core electro. this one really feels like a mixtape, like it should be on a cassette in an old school walkman with the earphones with the thin-ass foam cushion headphones on it that have your ears hurting after an hour. this is called a “1 take” because they recorded it live: “we only had 1-take to get it right otherwise we would have had to start ALLLLL the way back at the beginning.” impressive, right!?

enjoy, listen all the way through, but as always if you don’t like a song, fast forward about two minutes and you’ll probably a region of the musical galaxy that you never would have expected to come next. it’s like that. the file is too big to sample, but i’m trying to get around that. trust me though, it’s worth the download. i wouldn’t steer you wrong. and E-MAIL THEM IF YOU WANT THEM TO ROCK YOUR NEXT PARTY! e-mail address on the album cover.

DJ Eddie Limo – Fly As F*** [POWER Mixtape, MUST HAVE].
WOW.
in the footsteps of his conteporaries (like my cousin yemi aka yemsquad and his friends, who coincidentally run with the cush cush squadron), my man jaime aka DJ eddie limo out of atlanta, GA has put out a ridiculously trill mix that i’ve had for a minute, but after i jammed it during my morning run (and it gave me the energy to make it back to my house running instead of lollygagging like a chump), i decided that it was critical i pass this along to the masses IMMEDIATELY. i know the majority of you people may try and scroll past this post, but i URGE you to open up your mind and see what this joint is about.

believe the hype, because the mixtape cover is as epic as the 34 minutes of back-to-back jams. if you enjoyed the bottle service mix i threw up last week, you’ll love this all the same. what’s on it, you ask!? i won’t spoil it. actually, i only knew a handful of the songs, but there are so many blends and stuff that it all sounded like new music to me. check it out below, and skim through it to see how diverse the content is. uptempo, bass heavy, keeps you moving. everything from electronic to hip-hop to club to house to retro to alternative, all in one mix. take it to the gym and i bet you’ll be back asking me for more.

re-up cuz my mp3 player site went down earlier!
so i hit atlanta last spring, solo like i usually do when i make power moves, and i posted up with my cousin for about a week out in an area called cascade. that’s when i was introduced to some of the greatest music ever made.
i introduce to you CushCush, a duo out of h-town, texas. made up of my man b*luckett (on the right) and his man ace boon coon, the two have been DJ’ing for a minute, and love to jam that stuff with heavy drum breaks, crucial synths, and good vocals. i don’t even really know the genre they specialize in, but if i had to call it anything, i would say it’s a vicious mix between drum ‘n’ bass (D&B, google that stuff, it’s big in the UK!) club/house, and hip hop. essentially, i’m talking about any music that you want to just jam to, they fuck with and incorporate into their sets. it can be madonna, it can be project pat. and typically, it’s a mash-up of both.
anyway, after they sensed my intrigue, they gave me some required [online] reading material to get more acquainted with this type of music, like discobelle. i’ve been DL’ing these mixes ever since. great gym music! i’m sharing it with you. i kinda figure this is the future of music, because it combines all genres and types of people (hipsters, hip hop heads, ravers, suburbs, city folk, you get the idea) and makes the ultimate party-going experience, if you’re the open-minded type. in fact, i was in the A a few weeks ago, and my cuz and b*luckett took me to this spot, MJQ, which was probably the illest experience i’ve had in a club. ever. let me know how you feel about this 30-minute set right here, and be on the look out for more mixes just like this in the future.
