star linebacker mark herzlich has been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer known as Ewing's sarcoma. DCtoBC.com

if you’re a boston college student or football fan, you may have heard that that in may, star linebacker mark herzlich was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer known as ewing’s sarcoma. i recently came across an inspiring article about how mark has been dealing with his current situation, and his optimism definitely brightened up my week. something i think everybody should read. check it out here.

i didn’t know mark well, but he lived on our hall, all the way on the other end, and was not the stereotypical athlete. humble, funny, and inviting. he even hooked me and ricardo up with some freeze pops once! for no good reason! he just had them on deck, and at the floor meeting, gave them out. those are the kind of people i admire, and he is in my prayers.

oh, my bad. i was trying to make a nice little header that you might find in a newspaper tomorrow morning or something. ha. if you don’t go to BC or follow sports, then let me explain to you how big this victory was. duke has been whooping up on BC for the last two decades and some change. in fact, in the last 24 years, BC’s men’s basketball team had not beaten duke. that is, until today. shout out to all the BC eagles who helped us defeat the biggest jerks in the country. suckers. watch the video to see how it went down.

the song makes me nostalgic for high school days. college is overrated; i can’t wait til spring break. i need to figure out where i’m posting up in each class though. it will vary, depending on the professor. i need to pick my classes, too.

i hate the dudes in the front row, but admire mid-center people. and in my summer school english class @ fordham, i swear there was a girl who sat against the wall, with her hand blocking her face because she was extremely shy. she even walked to the bathroom with it in front of her face. was that mean to say? probably. oh, and in my econ class, i posted up by exit. because i had no idea what was going on. that’s why you shouldn’t ever trust me with your money. more great diagrams over at PHD comics.

BC swag!!!

Picture1 3 BC swag!!!
this is for my BC brethrens.
so i’m browsing on my homie london’s blog, and i see her advertising for this site. it’s called BC swag, and apparently, they just give BC students hella swag, aka FREE STUFF. i went to chamillionaire’s album preview session with my homies nick and erin, and they gave us swag bags, but they were kinda weaksauce. BC swag looks more official, man. i’m talking food, movie tickets, PLANE tickets, promotional sh!t, crucial gear, and much more. i figured i’d do the right thing like spike lee and spread the good word. so check it out, enter the raffles, scheme and plot a little bit, and let me know if you get anything vicious. enjoy!

crucial cuddling time.

2438149970 69612bd12e crucial cuddling time.

editor’s note: i wrote this about a year ago. i found it in the archives of my computer’s hard drive, so i figured i’d share it with you all. it’s actually getting a little cold here in boston, so i feel like this is a good time for the re-up. let’s get it. enjoy.

man oh man…it’s getting cold out there, people. i can’t really speak for other schools, but i feel like when it gets cold in boston, i tend to see more couples linking up, more relationships blossom. my guess? daylights savings + frigid weather = crucial cuddling time (CCT). well, it’s a little more complex than that. let me break it down.

sure, doubt me if you want. but haven’t you noticed? that guy who lives in the room next door is no longer midnight creeping to (insert homegirl of the day here)’s room. instead, he’s posted up with his main squeeze, watching a movie in the lounge or something. your buddy doesn’t tell you about the wild weekend he had, because the weekend wasn’t wild. he was probably watching 10 things i hate about you with his wifey. it’s basically a fact…everybody out there, around this time of the year, is looking to get bunned up. didn’t you notice shorty who you’ve been eyeing in the cafeteria everyday FINALLY coming up and saying what’s up at the halloween party in a few weeks? or ladies, how about the extra flirtatious dude working at the school store? maybe it’s just me, but i feel the desperation in the air. now, the thing about this whole dilemma is, nobody is excluded; youngsters, adults, nerds, jocks, divas, cool kid. it doesn’t even mattter. you just want somebody to care about, right? don’t be ashamed, it is what it is.

i know some people who read this entry are like, “easier said than done, man.” and you are exactly right. it’s all about reciprocity. you can pour your heart out to somebody, but it means nothing unless they show you love back. trust me on that. there are no guaranteed methods to winning the boy or girl of your dreams. there’s only hope. me personally? i’m a dreamer. i don’t care if the odds are favorable that i will get carried (carried = played. rocked. chopped and screwed, as t-pain would say in that new song. yeah, this is an update to the year-old entry, so what?), because that slim chance is good enough for me.

i know i’m rambling, so i’ll just get to the point: everybody gets bit by the like/love/lust bug, and there’s nothing you can really do about it. the bug’s been tryna get me, but i won’t speak on whether or not he’s actually chomped on me (all hetero) just yet. instead, i’ll let lupe fiasco speak for those out there who have that special person that they’ve had their eye on for a minute.

anyway, watch the video, you’ll like it. oh, and shout out to all the dreamers out there…i see you. preach, mr. fiasco. preach. (sidenote: the real video i was tryna show you is triller. this is the same song but a different video. this guy who made this was a dork. the other joint was vicious. but this’ll do. if i find the other joint, i’ll post it. – modi, 1.30.2010.) feedback is appreciated on this post. enjoy.

district fresh x judah interview.

Filed under: audio/video, welcome to BC

i decided against blogging about the DC music scene because i don’t live there at the moment, and tons of people can do that job better than me. they’re all in the blogroll, under "the dmv." however, when i saw this interview wit my man judah, i had to throw it up.

judah is the one guy i’ve been hearing about for a minute, and he’s finally starting to get the recognition he deserves. he’s produced for a lot of up-and-coming talent, both from the area (like wale, for instance) and around the nation (like my homie theo). district fresh gets in touch with judah for this 10 minute interview. crucial.

homework the tipping point.

“the level at which the momentum for change becomes unstoppable.”

homboy clearly couldn’t swerve it, and unfortunately got rocked in math class. he’ll wake up with that gum plastered all over his face. damn. the only way to pull off an all-nighter is to somehow evade that tipping point. i’ve just succeeded. please, don’t be like this guy.

wow. this cali MC, signed to d’wayne carter’s young money imprint, is opening up for the roots this friday @ boston college. and he is officially the man. DO NOT SKIP ANY PART OF THIS. but realize that around 4 minutes and 25 seconds deep, he stunts on everybody. watch.

i can’t even lie, this could be one of the most entertaining videos i’ve seen in a minute. after seeing this, i can say tyga is a-ok in my book. he just ate some money, while talking down on some OG’s. oh boy. he wins. see you friday, tyga man. “stop hatin’!”

don’t know who this guy is!? he had the summer anthem. enjoy it.

roots the roots @ BC [update].

the roots in concert @ BC

friday, september 12 in conte forum. $20 per ticket.

my UGBC connect told me that tickets are officially on sale from monday – friday during business hours in robsham theatre (no max # of tickets, but they will ask for a BC ID when buying it just to make sure it is BC affiliated). no need for a BC ID at the doors though, so anyone from around here can come in for the show.

oh, and apparently young money’s tyga is opening up for these guys. i personally think these guys attract two different demographics, and a few other artists would have been better picks, but you tell me how you feel about that.

thank the people over at UGBC for this special fall concert. seating is general admission, with the doors opening at 7 pm for the 8 pm show.
