RIP to the King of Pop. In honor of his birthday today, I’ve decided to post one of my all-time favorite movies, Moonwalker.
I kid you not. The entire joint is in DCtoBC’s patented HD (hella dope) quality. You know you’ve been looking for this for a few years.
If you haven’t seen this joint, then clear your schedule and watch it immediately. The film includes everything from the live concert scenes to the part where he runs away from the crazy fans and battles the rabbit to the actual movie. A classic. I invite you to relive your childhood here for the next 88 minutes. Spread the word, please.

Any person in a sticky circumstance can relate to this song. The sample is insane, from an old Bob Marley song I believe, and is one of the hardest Supreeme songs I’ve ever heard. You may have heard the song a while ago (get it here if you haven’t), but this video has a new verse that’s not on the mp3 version. I don’t know who that guy is, but he kills his 16 bars. Enjoy it. i dedicate it to my seniors who aren’t sure they’re on track for graduation, and my people in economical binds. We’ll make it out.
The first time I heard these guys, I think it was with my girl Alex. She had all these tracks on a random CD, and I popped it in the car’s stereo system. I got to this joint and brought it back like 30 times. This was the song I heard. It’s unreleased, and I don’t know if they’ll be upset that I’m throwing it to the internet, but I’ll tell you one thing: it’s trill. It’s from ’06 or ’07, but it just made sense to give it to you guys today.

Well, that party was incredible. Thanks to everybody who came out to support, as well as those who tried but had prior engagements. A special shout out to those who attempted to get in after the event reached capacity; the Donovan House Hotel couldn’t have been any more unreasonable about that situation, but that’s a different story entirely.
Long story short, we packed the joint, people enjoyed themselves, and The Great Progression / DC to BC, LLC has pulled off another successful event. This time, we’d like to thank Christine and Allison of Lunchbox Theory for letting us jump on board with them, as well as my big brother Daniel of YEBies, who I wanted to get into the mix as well. The all-around diversity of people that we got to come out for this joyous occasion was incredible, for lack of a more fitting word, and I’m very excited to see what’ll be next as far as an event for the people who support this movement I like to call The Great Progression.
Check out the first of (hopefully) several short video segments that document this wonderful experience, shot (and flipped in record time!) by my brother Mike Sanchez.
Feel free to throw this video around, embed it, and pass it to people who you know were there, but don’t know that this footage is available. The Gee Pee. Coming soon.

Phil Ade‘s second project is here, and by the looks of things, it looks like my hometown will be partially responsible for bringing the boom bap back to hip-hop. The first DMV artist with the “CANNON!” drop all over his $#!t. I told you this city was coming up. That’s why I had to come back! It’s a full-length album, with all original production, and presented by OkayPlayer x DJ Booth for FREE!
Featuring TabiBonney, RaheemDeVaughn, Skillz, Wale, Raekwon, and more great talent. The tape dropped on Tuesday this week, and since I’m just getting back into the blog game, I’ll let my brother Winston from Couch Sessions give you the word on the project. Here’s my favorite track on the joint, “Paid In Full” as well as a download link.

You may remember how I threw his first joint, Starting on JV, on the blog about a year ago. I didn’t know anything about the guy except that he could rap. Well, much has changed since then. I was fortunate to be around at the studio a couple of times while songs on the tape were being recorded, and I’ve seen him work. I can’t even believe how fast he writes. Just hears the beat, goes into the zone for a few minutes, and walks in the booth to record it. It’s ridiculous.
I’ll say it again. Ridiculous.
Me and Phil got a chance to kick it over at SXSW in Austin, TX, earlier this year (me, him and Dre roomed together in this nice hotel that was way too far from the city. Goodness.) and I can honestly say that he’s one of the most genuine guys I’ve met in this music stuff. Motivational for sure. We arrived to several venues with Phil being the unknown act who was on the bill, and by the time we left, people were singing the hook to “Hollywood” out loud. He made even the most reluctant concert attendee bop, and that’s why I believe his showmanship was among the best I saw all weekend. Keep in mind that I probably saw like 15 shows with hella artists at each one.
(Editor’s Note: We have no idea who that white guy was. Literally no idea. I’m still baffled as to how he bogarted his way into that photo, because normally, in situations like this, Dre would have leaned on him with the quickness. Chip clearly was all for it, though. One of the coolest artists ever. Speaking of which, look out for the concert that DC to BC / The Great Progression will be throwing with Chip Tha Ripper, 7.23.2010 in NYC at Santo’s Play House. Get your tickets NOW! Talk about promo. I see you, Kev!)
The networking that 368 Music Group did over that SXSW weekend was wild. Somehow, me and them finagled our way into mansions that had things going on that you only see in the movies (I see you, Virgil!) and crazy parties (thank you, COMPLEX!). Once I get my stuff together, I’ll drop the video footage I took from that unforgettable week. Shout out to the whole 368 camp for letting me rock with them. I ran into Dre outside Commonwealth two days ago, and he played some stuff for me that led me to believe that they will take over the city pretty soon, as far as hip-hop is concerned.
If you want to know more about Phil, my brother Jabari has it all covered. He linked up with Okayplayer to present “Chasing The Letter,” a three-part series that gets a little deeper into Phil’s story, as far as his path to where he is today and how The Letterman was created. Very well put together! Check all three videos out below (they’re worth it, and not too long either.).

Re-up because it’s hilarious, and you guys need some f*cking laughter in your life. Trust me, it’s utterly ridiculous, and I felt borderline uncomfortable because I felt like little man was gonna say something to make things racial. I’m just saying though.
“NO! I keep losing at deals, and I DON’T WANNA MAKE A DEAL ANYMORE!”
There are actually five or six quotables, but I’d rather you all hit the comment section with them. LOLOLOLOLOL. boris i love you!

Nostalgic from my Boston College days, I decided to throw up a video that me and my right hand man Ricardo created the day before we graduated. Exams had us stressed out, so we had to just let loose real quick. Notice how I had a beard, by the way. This is pretty much how every day of school was for us, though. Let’s get it.

Do you like Daft Punk? Do you have an hour of free time on your hands? Do you want to see the type of musical movie that every great musical group should try and make at some point in their career, using only their work to narrate an entire film?
If you’ve answered yes to all three of these questions, then the next power move is to press play on the bad boy below. Essentially, it’s an animated film using only Daft Punk songs to narrate the entire thing. It’s incredible how many emotions are conveyed with songs, and this is some pretty trill evidence that proves the statement in the first clause of this sentence to be correct.
Fast forward to 1 minute and 15 seconds deep, and enjoy.
If you want an HD quality version for your computer, holler at me, I’ve got it on deck.

The blog comment frequenters and obnoxious tweeters of the music world often chastised the DC hip hop pioneer Wale for allowing Gucci La Flare to bless the second verse of his (in my opinion) most radio-friendly hit yet, “Pretty Girls”. That song should do damage around the nation if things go as planned.
I personally loved Gucci’s verse, and adding him included a whole new demographic that Wale probably owuldn’t have reached if Gucci Gucci didn’t bless the track. But that’s besides the point. For those who couldn’t feel that version, DMV crooner Raheem DeVaughn heard your cries for help and has come to the rescue. He and 21-year-old Phil Ade, his solo signee (also from our area. And he’s Nigerian. Let’s go.) to his newly formed imprint, 368 Music Group, decided to put their own spin on the ode to bad ass females. I appreciate both versions, and it’s cool to have an unofficial DMV Remix to the song that goes harder than most joints in the clubs these days. No new verse from Mr. Folarin, but that verse didn’t need to be upgraded.

If you need more Phil Ade in your life, you can grab his critically acclaimed mixtape that I posted here a while back. HERE you go. New mixtape, The Letterman, dropping soon. I was fortunate enough to be in the stu’ with him and various producers and I’m gonna say this now…he’s about to turn a lot of heads. The only reason you probably haven’t heard about him is because he’s too humble to talk a lot of sh!t.
He can perform well, too. Don’t believe me? Check out this footage taken by 1st Impression Studios.
