the great progression (“the gee pee”). the movement you’ve heard about, but have yet to see actually move. well, it’s finally upon us; all i need now is funds to make the dream a reality. yeah, you heard me. the moola and the guap, like wiz said on his album. what better way to donate to a good cause than to throw a video game sports tourney / kickback on the eve of sunday, october 10th? NBA 2K11 dropped (with a playable michael jordan, who you can see in the background!), recently; we’ll be playing that on PS3. but while we’re at it, we might as well pay homage to dreamcast, a system so ahead of its time the industry couldn’t handle it. it dropped on 9.9.99, and 2K premiered its first game, NBA 2K, on this console.

we’ll have two screens going all night; one with the newest 2K offering, and the other with vintage dreamcast 2K sports games (NHL, NBA, and NFL. we ain’t playin’!). suck at video games? so what? come to support! we got jenga, connect four, uno, taboo, music, and great people to keep you occupied. $5 to fall through (larger donations welcome). it’s in g-town; e-mail modi[at]DCtoBC.com for the address. complimentary cocktails by belvedere, the best vodka in the biz.

Yeah, you read it. Starts tonight at 8pm. You don’t have work tomorrow, so don’t even fake like you do. Feel free to bring more beverages to spice things up, too. Could be some surprises there, too. You never know…!

Not in town/can’t come out to support, but still wanna donate!? We appreciate that! Check out our donation link below.

DC to BC started in ’07 as a twice-weekly radio show with my friend Quinn Coleman and I (we went to school in DC together at that school Obamas kids go to now and ended up at Boston College, thus the name; I hope you knew that.) where we played stuff that the big stations didn’t. We were fortunate enough to land KiD CuDi’s first radio interview ever back in ‘07, and since then, we never really looked back. As DC to BC made some respectable leaps and bounds as it evolved from a low-budget, rinky-dink radio show to a makeshift blog run by me and my Macbook. Most recently, Roc Nation signee J. Cole shouted us out in Complex and XXL put us down as one of the 100 Best Hip-Hop Web Sites in their December / January issue. in November, and We’re blessed to have that love from the big guys. But ever since graduating from BC, I‘ve wanted to move on to a new endeavor. That’s why I decided to start The Great Progression.

The Great Progression (also known as The Gee Pee) is a multifaceted movement of sorts started by myself and some friends. I wanted to take what I was doing with DC to BC and enhance it by including more people and more perspectives, but still stay true to the same style of blogging/writing/malarkey that had people coming back for whatever reason. I also wanted to create a brand that is as visible in the streets (events, functions and gatherings) as it is online. It’s purely for entertainment’s sake, but we’re serious about keeping you engaged and reading regularly.

The Gee Pee is a creative collective comprised of people with various interests and from all walks of life. It’s a place to articulate and provoke thoughts, indulge in tomfoolery, expand your musical palette, and fully embrace the elements of various subcultures. It’s more than just a blog – It’s something tangible. We’re real people living real lives, passionate about our interests and motivated by everything around us. Every good English teacher I ever had told me to show and not tell. So don’t trust me. Just check it out, and hopefully it lives up to your expectations.

I can’t give you a concrete launch date at the moment, because it’s bigger than me. I can, however, say that the next thing you should look out for (besides updates on @TheGeePee. Matter fact…follow that joint while you’re here please.) is everything Rock Creek Social Club related.. That’s my latest project. At first glance, you’d think it’s some promotion stuff, but really, it’s deeper than that for me. It’s more like an opportunity to see if I can fine-tune this brand that my friends and I created. We had a pretty successful debut party this past Tuesday, and will continue to do so every other Tuesday. If you want more info, @RockCreekSocial is the squad to hit up.

me and my DC to BC co-founders have been looking into the trillest business card ideas after we recently LLC’d the company (this means we have created a company out of something that started as just a blog. let’s get it.) the business of business cards is one that i never thought i’d see, but once you graduate college, you feel almost naked without one to pass to everybody you encounter.

see that clever card design above? yeah, it’s way too trill. and it makes sense, too. i’ve been browsing through a few incredibly creative business card ideas, and although i believe that we’ll settle on something simple yet chic, it’s always good to look.

i’m about forward progress, and you should be too.

self-discipline. probably one of the hardest things to achieve. not sure how to define it? look at the picture above. see those dogs just posted up while they check out that cat strolling on by? that’s self-discipline at its finest. i don’t really need to say much more than that, but i’ll expand a bit.

wikipedia defines it as “denying oneself of an extravagant pleasure in order to accomplish a more demanding charitable deed.” you know what this means; passing on a trip to cold stone creamery and making a trip to the gym instead. talking to that one dude or dudette as opposed to scanning the roster and rotating subs in and out. refraining from splurging on bottle service at the club and staying in the crib to work on that paper due next week. i will admit, as a young and dumb college kid, i rarely have self-discipline. i know a few of my homies out there have the same problem! i’m no preacher. i do know, however, that when you resist temptation and stay focused on your goal, victory feels that much better. right now, my tactic is this: i don’t cut my hair or shave until i get my homework done every week. thoughts!? i’m just trying to get like one of those dogs above, man. come join me.

think about that, and download slim thug’s “ashy to classy” here.

a few things that have happened in the last few days have inspired me greatly. conversations with great thinkers, unfortunate situations, and other recent experiences made me realize that i need to start focusing on future, and help my homies do the same. so i’m starting a new section called the great progression, dedicated to just that – progress. inspired by the great kendall corbin cones (yes, i put your entire government out here, homie) my e-mentor, PMD, and of course all you readers, the section will just be me throwing tidbits of info, nuggets of wisdom, and anything i can to aid in your progressional power moves, whatever they may be. i won’t be preaching or anything, so don’t worry. but whether you’re a high schooler, a grad student, an OG, i still think you can appreciate and relate. so without further ado, here’s the first entry.

yerp. the confessions of a reformed procrastinator. except, i’m not reformed at all. i’m the worst of the worst. ask my roomies. i sometimes don’t leave the room. for like two days. what am i doing!? i don’t even know. often, it’s not homework, so it’s probably not too important.

my mom shared this article with me like a month ago, but being the procrastinator i am, i never read it until just now. after reading it, i’m now out of bed, showered, and reading. so needless to say, it’s informative and helpful for even the worst procrastinators. if you don’t know, procrastination is fatal! really. so check it out here, and let me know what you think.
