I probably won’t talk too much about my job on here, but I just want you guys to know that although things may be slow sometimes, this site will still exist with the same damn content and everything.

We’re about to make some major changes, but I’ve been saying that for like a year and some change and there have been literally no changes. Oh well. I’m glad that my die-hards still rock with me!

I started a Tumblr out of boredom, but I’ve found that it’s been one of the coolest random pastimes I’ve jumped into as of recent. It’s called Trill Flyers, and basically, all I do is find awesome flyers for events and post them. I’m not talking about promoting these events, because some of them have past. In fact, I recently put up a Harry Houdini (you know, that awesome magician guy who would get locked up in shackles underwater and still find a way out? The distant cousin of failed magician [and unfortunately, my distant relative], Modini?) poster from around 100 years ago.

Nobody I know made it to this joint. Grandpa wasn’t even an afterthought at this point.

But really, it’s a cool little side venture that has taught me how to utilize Tumblr in different ways, and how some flyers are better than the actual event they’re promoting. Check it out: http://trillflyers.tumblr.com. Follow it, reblog my posts, favorite them, “like” them, all that good stuff. Oh, and make sure you send me the coolest flyers you come across. I’ll do a better job of citing the creators of the flyers if I know them, but don’t just send me your $#!t and ask me to post it. It better be TRILL. One day in early August I got an e-mail from Trent and Walker, two ambitious filmmakers hailing from Sin City (that’s Vegas for anybody who just completely missed that), explaining that they’d be making a documentary on Eli Porter, the rapper famous for his unintentionally hilarious YouTube video which I blogged about and did play-by-play commentary a couple years ago.

They told me they wanted to interview me, and were flying to DC to do exactly that. I didn’t really believe it, but I figured I had nothing to lose, so I sent out my contact info and gave them the address to where I’d be around Friday, the day when they said they’d get in. I thought nothing of it until my phone rang a week later on that Friday evening and they said they were five minutes away.

Wowzers. I was over at my man Greenwood‘s house for another epic gathering that I put together with some friends (you don’t believe me!? The video footage from that event was documented here. All from that party. That’s just how I do it in DC. Don’t sleep on us, please!), and before they called, I had completely forgot that I had told them to fall through. Five minutes later, these guys were up in Greenwood’s house, enjoying the wild party atmosphere outside for a quick second before getting down to business.

Yep. It looked like that. Anyway, they mic’d me up (like all those wires and stuff you see in that behind the scenes footage! It was cool.) and we sought refuge upstairs, somewhere much quieter to talk to me about the viral video that moved them enough to dedicate the last year of their lives following Eli Porter, the Iron Mic Freestyle champion.

I won’t go into much detail, because I don’t know what I can spill and what I can’t. I do know that we talked for about an hour or so about other viral video superstars, about the video’s impact on the world, and whether or not to take him seriously. At the end of the day, he’s an actual person with a real dream, and I can respect that. I was blown away by the in-depth research that Trent and Walker did, both on me (and trust me, there’s not much to know about me) and on viral videos in general. I respect their hard work and dedication; the guys were so damn cool. I’m still surprised that they came all the way to DC because of a damn blog post I did. They told me that it was the play-by-play commentary that had them dying, and although the breakdown was kinda hilarious (shout out to my roommate from college and best friend, Ricardo aka @InternetGoon for watching that video like 100 times with me while we shoulda been doing homework), it was pretty thorough. I found pretty much everything ridiculous in it and wrote about it in detail. Click the link if you don’t believe me.

I say all that to say this: these guys are working hard, man. The documentary is shaping up, and they really have been following Eli around like celebrity stalkers/paparazzi. In a good way, though. john hughes was incredibly inspirational in my life, and i didn’t even realize it until yesterday. i never knew the man made some of my favorite comedies ever, and it’s only right that i pay tribute in two ways.

the first thing i’ll do is throw you a HD (hella dope) quality version of my favorite hughes film, the breakfast club. not familiar with it? do some wikipedia research if you’re hesitant. if you trust me, then just know that it’s about a bunch of strangers that cross paths on one weekend afternoon in high school detention, and it’s ingenious in every way possible. enjoy.

the second thing i want to do is direct you to the most solid imeem playlist ever. it’s a compilation of songs from soundtracks of his movies. the 80′s and 90′s had some awesome soundtracks. in fact, back then, the soundtracks had the capability of going gold or platinum, and people took them seriously as opposed to you would a transformers soundtrack found in the checkout aisle in walmart. for the jams (a streaming playlist, not a download), click here.

oh boy. a record label divorce. wiz’ manager artie hit me with the news. good or bad, you be the judge. i’m leaning toward the former, cuz it allows him to have more control over his project. read on, but not until you play this jam.

After numerous delayed release dates for his debut album, Rostrum Records recording artist Wiz Khalifa has left Warner Bros. Records.  The 21-year old Pittsburgh MC signed with Warner Bros. in June of 2007, and early the next year had a Billboard Top 25 hit with “Say Yeah.”  Prior to signing with Warner Bros., Wiz and his Rostrum Records team were part of a riveting grassroots movement that caught the attention of Rolling Stone, XXL, MTV, Fuse, and all of the major labels.

Wiz adds, “I’d like to thank Warner Bros. for understanding our reasons for wanting to leave.  I learned a lot during my time there and matured as an artist during the process. I’m happy to be moving on with all of my material and having the chance to be in control of my next moves.”

yeah, that’s the longest title i’ve ever had on this blog. but this is pretty huge! bill o’reilly and dennis miller (yeah, the comedian. his political commentary is incredible though.) criticize rappers young jeezy and jay-z for their “my president is black” performance in DC over inauguration weekend.

i think that dennis miller keeps it as trill as possible, and while o’reilly is always a jackass, his reasoning is pretty sound. i hear both sides, though. they weren’t trying to be racist, but they were simply expressing their joy with the fact that just a couple decades ago, black people were being hosed, hung, beaten, killed, shot, for nothing. now, a person with the same skin tone is running the country. i can’t call it just yet. what do you think!?

remember those days when christmas was getting closer and closer, so you used to wait patiently for that sunday paper, collect all the colorful ads and inserts that catered to your interest, and circle everything you wanted to be on your wish list? kids everywhere were going to SCHOOL on the circuit city insert! well, apparently, those days may be coming to an end very soon. CNN reported today that best buy’s biggest competitor has filed for bankruptcy protection due to this worsening economic crisis. i’ve always been a circuit city supporter, although best buy’s name doesn’t really lie. damn, though. read the entire story here, they’ll break down all the deets for you.
