I’ve always been opposed to dress clothes. I don’t care if Halle Berry told me that she’d let me hold her hand down Rodeo Ave. if I put on a seer sucker or a three-piece. I can’t go for that, like that Hall & Oates song. Oftentimes, I’d debate fashion with those who have made the culture their lives (such as stylists, designers, etc.), explaining that I just wear what I want to wear, and clothes don’t matter in the grand scheme of things. Most of my close friends don’t have any particularly awesome sense of style, and I don’t judge people based on what they’re wearing. Ever. That’s why you’ll never see me blog about what to wear. That’s not my place to tell you what to do.
I still feel like that, and fashion isn’t my thing. I have my own tastes, but that’s really where it stops. I do, however, appreciate those who respect fashion for more than its aesthetic offering. People like my man Adrian, or the dudes over at Street Etiquette, or Phil and the Madbury Club team, my guy Dizzy. Those guys will talk your ear off about some fashion, but it’s cool because it’s not just because it looks cool. There’s history, there’s meaning and purpose, and there’s strategy!
I say all that to say this: Put This On has by far the trillest web series in the game. They’re only three episodes deep, and there are huge gaping holes of time in between when this team drops them, but they’re always worth the wait. They pretty much do exactly what I just talked about as far as fashion. The dude who is in the videos looks like he’s in his 30′s, but their videos apply to pretty much every adult with their own money to buy their own clothes and who want to know the basics of fashion that nobody ever talks about. That’s probably their exact demographic. Ladies, unfortunately this caters to males more so than the females (as far as I’ve seen in their stuff, anyway), but the production and the approach to the entire culture of clothing, as well as the way it’s all depicted makes this episode of Put This On worthy of viewing. Check it out. After listening to my man Paul Fieg (Mad Men, 30 Rock, Arrested Development, Freaks & Geeks...should I go on?) talk about why he dresses up for work, I quickly scrolled through my phone to see if I still had Halle’s digits. Enjoy.

Right around when I started going to college, I heard of the infamous sneaker collector / fashionisto (as far as this Hypebeast culture is concerned) Dizzy, or Josh as I know him. I remember his MySpace celebrity status was at 100 trillion; flicks of shoeboxes stacked to the ceiling and rare, impossible-to-find gear that people who didn’t know much about streetwear but were always somewhat intrigued by the lifestyle would drool over (like me, I guess). I don’t know much about those shoe collector forums, but I feel like he was probably some kind of legend in those back when they thrived.
The most important thing I learned about Dizzy just from e-stalking / watching from afar was his constant hustling. He was always flipping the gear he got – he’d buy some fly ass kicks or some raw denim jeans and take some pictures to post on the internet. After he had people talking about the stuff, he’d sell it for more than he got it for. A lot more. I realized right then and there that he didn’t really give a hoot about the stuff. It was a business, and he was catering to those who would give away their first-born for some kicks or a 1-of-1 tee that was only released in the South of France. There was a huge market for this, and from University of Delaware (his alma mater. Sidenote: this guy can hoop. He may not have height, but he’s got heart. That’s a whole ‘nother conversation, though.) or his Silver Spring abode, he could supply the nation. The power of the internet.
That’s how I heard about the guy – from the internet. But he also had space for a small sneaker consignment store within the quarters of my man Vince’s barber shop, and that’s probably the first time I met him in real life. Five years later, we’re real life acquaintances. Contemporaries, if you will. When I was driving around DC with Josh and we ran into J. Cole walking into Ooh’s and Aah’s, me and Josh went to chop it up and eat with them. I’m sure Josh hasn’t doubted me since then.
It’s cool to see the progress he’s made since we became cool. He’s relocated to Philly since graduating from school came out to support at Child’s Play last week, as well as my birthday party this past Saturday. I recently came across this smooth, documentary-style video on him speaking about style, which is all this post was supposed to consist of before I started typing like a madman. Check it out below.
Also, he was featured in Madbury Club. Check that feature out here. Shout out to Phil and Ellington for that site, by the way. Trill $#!t.

Oh $#!T. I’m broke, but my birthday is tomorrow, so if anybody wants to buy me this, I can’t say I won’t cry tears of joy.
Pharrell plays model to an upcoming BP3 t-shirt, which should be the first of three designs paying tribute to the #1 album in America. A release can be expected next week although few other details are known at this time. Stay tuned for a more comprehensive look in the coming days.
one of my goals with this blog is to shed light on anything major going on in my area. durkl is an emerging streetwear brand that was founded a couple years ago and is beginning to take DC and the surrounding neighborhoods by storm. the combination of skater influence mixed with a cleaned-up, organized version of second-hand ’80s and ’90s threads is pretty cool if you ask me. there was a trill party a little over a week ago at the new durkl heardquarters, housed in a recently converted taxi garage. the ’09 merchandise was on display, which features everything you need to make it through the fall season. house DJ chris burns was killing the jams while people were getting live tattoos (by adam’s morgan’s tattoo paradise), in-place bike racing, getting their drink on, and enjoying a swag bag of products, courtesy of durkl and the party’s sponsors. ALL FOR FREE! don’t believe me? check out my man ricky parker‘s video footage below.
crazy, right? vimby TV was also in the builing. shout out to my man luke pierce, the man in charge of durkl’s operations, for having impeccable execution for durkl’s first party. check out the ’09 lookbook over at durkl’s site.
not one to post about clothes, partially cuz i don’t want people to know what i’m about to get for myself, but also because i don’t feel like i have any right telling people what to wear. however, this is for a good cause.
the guys over at clockwise clothing have released a MJ tribute tee, with all proceeds going to The Childrens Defense Fund and their “Leave No Child Behind” act. for $22, this is a solid purchase.
offered in sizes S – 2XL. grab your own HERE, before they’re gone.
and this post wouldn’t be complete if i didn’t throw you something extra trill and exclusive. here are two michael jackson remixes of billy jean, both insane.

oh boy. has kanye gone off the deep end!? maybe! i can’t fake like those LV lowtop joints won’t be a power move, but then again, let’s be real. i can’t afford that. i’d rather spend that money on a flight or something substantial. or i’d spend it cutting that mullet joint off his head. good grief. looks like dalls rapper tum tum. spotted this over at fake shore drive. i only put it up because it was ridiculous, not because it was funny. i didn’t even crack a smile. damn, ‘ye. go make another hit, barry bonds.

the good people at real mango juice hipped me to this. while i’m not a PG county representative, i know a rack of you out there are! so hold down your city with this limited edition tee. get yours at good bully’s online shop today.
i’m just waiting for a rockville tee, man. or at the very least a montgomery county-themed shirt. we are just as cool. and i think they need to make editions for sheperd park, silver spring, and trinidad or minnesota avenue. and maybe some other joints, but those are just the areas i know people like to claim all the time. ha.
clockwise clothing is back at it again. first they took over DC, maryland, and VA with the essential "RUN DMV" tee, and now they’ve decided to show obama’s wifey a whole lotta love with the most crucial politically-influenced clothing item since this joint .
available in ALL sizes, several colors, and in styles for both men & women. i’d rock one of these joints (i’m like an XL, just for the record. ha.) any day. i’m calling it now: the "michelle rocks!" tee will blow the (#&* up across the country. so when you see it in Complex or on CNN, remember where you saw it first. oh, and did i mention that a percentage of the earnings go towards the obama / biden campaign? these guys struck gold here. and someone tell their models to holler at me, please.
