I hate when black people talk about the way other black people talk. You always hear somebody make fun of somebody who sounds “too white,” and that’s crazy to me.
What is sounding white, anyway!? I never got that concept. If you grew up in the suburbs, most of which tend to have substantially less black people than areas closer to the city, and you went to a private school, most of which are more expensive and not very diverse, then the chances are, you will grow up to be a product of your environment. So how can anybody be stupid enough to say something like “You aren’t black enough?” What is black?
I thought about all of this after reading this article on Bill Cosby’s daughter, Evin. Check the excerpt:
“My own people used to say to me, ‘You speak like a white woman.’ What does that even mean, anyway? Everyone has their way of speaking and living their life. No one should be judging and assuming that because I’m black, I have to speak in that hip-hop way. That’s something I prefer not to do.”
Oh boy! The hip hop way!? I don’t know about all that, Evin. And while she may have offended a bunch of black people with that statement, I actually understand what she’s trying to say, and i co-sign. Somebody once told me, jokingly, that I wasn’t really black. and i said, “I’m nigerian. I’m the blackest you can get. When you get there, let me know.” I even had a debate with a drunken Christina Campbell on her birthday last night about culture and lifestyle versus class, and some of these topics were discussed.
I digress. Don’t take it from me, though. Just let my man Remington Wallace Burnett break it down for you. LOL. This is a must watch!
ok, it’s not really a deluxe edition at all. it’s just all 3 discs in one file. a re-up, too.
turbo . you may have heard about him before. we’ve covered him a couple times. his concepts and ideas are pretty unique. i don’t really like describing music; it’s a thing you just gotta jam and find out for yourself. so click the album art above to download the mixtape. i’ll give you a sample video.
GET YOUR TURBO GAME UP NOW! F*** MAINSTREAM! THIS MAN CAN SPIT!
so i hit atlanta last spring, solo like i usually do when i make power moves, and i posted up with my cousin for about a week out in an area called cascade. that’s when i was introduced to some of the greatest music ever made.
i introduce to you CushCush, a duo out of h-town, texas. made up of my man b*luckett (on the right) and his man ace boon coon, the two have been DJ’ing for a minute, and love to jam that stuff with heavy drum breaks, crucial synths, and good vocals. i don’t even really know the genre they specialize in, but if i had to call it anything, i would say it’s a vicious mix between drum ‘n’ bass (D&B, google that stuff, it’s big in the UK!) club/house, and hip hop. essentially, i’m talking about any music that you want to just jam to, they fuck with and incorporate into their sets. it can be madonna, it can be project pat. and typically, it’s a mash-up of both.
anyway, after they sensed my intrigue, they gave me some required [online] reading material to get more acquainted with this type of music, like discobelle. i’ve been DL’ing these mixes ever since. great gym music! i’m sharing it with you. i kinda figure this is the future of music, because it combines all genres and types of people (hipsters, hip hop heads, ravers, suburbs, city folk, you get the idea) and makes the ultimate party-going experience, if you’re the open-minded type. in fact, i was in the A a few weeks ago, and my cuz and b*luckett took me to this spot, MJQ, which was probably the illest experience i’ve had in a club. ever. let me know how you feel about this 30-minute set right here, and be on the look out for more mixes just like this in the future.

the chi-town duo released the decay mixtape last year, and it got a crazy positive response from the masses. they decided to step it up about 304 notches and make some even wilder tracks. they threw me this exclusive a minute ago, but it’s just seeing daylight now. enjoy.

re-up because i’ve been getting a lot of e-mails about the fact that the DL link in this post is down. i don’t really care what genre of music you like. this song should appease you.
among the best songs i’ve heard all year. this guy, who could easily be mistaken for an extra in oliver twist, is actually one of the more creative electro / dance producers i’ve come across. his ear is phenomenal, as you’re about to see. PFOP put me on a few days ago, and i’ve never been so grateful.

wow. his new album, love to make music to, dropped not too long ago. i bought it on iTunes, that’s how much i support his music. hit his myspace and get familiar real quick. shout out to the dudes over @ blind i for being up on him, too.
oh, and there will definitely be a couple of people who DL the first track, and not the second. i guarantee by the end of the day, you’ll be back here DL’ing the second track, too. watch.
this is a re-up. from july ’08. almost a year ago.
if for some reason you didn’t feel him the first time, you will this time around.
this is monumental music, and i’m honored to be the guy to leak it. it’s so vicious that i’m tempted not posting anything else on this blog today. that way, it’ll be the only thing on everybody’s mind. unfortunately, i need to post a few things, but i feel like hope that by the end of the day, one of the big dog blogs would have snatched it, talking about “did you hear about that guy j. cole?”
yerp. that’s how i’m going. he reps fayetteville, NC as hard as fresh prince reps west philly. and furthermore, he makes all of his own beats. like this joint.
