“I know how to spot a fool, cuz they never shut up. If ya speak it, you don’t know it; you know it, ya don’t speak it.”
Don’t let anybody play you for a fool. Know your worth. Be nice to everybody. Watch out for the snakes. I don’t really have much else to say, except that this post is more for me, so that when I go to check my own site, I can read this and remember what made me say this stuff. Hopefully, it’s inspirational in a sense. Listen to Nesby Phips on this verse, at least the first eight bars. It’s where the quote’s from, anyway. The song is from Wiz’ Kush & Orange Juice. Wiz kills his verse as usual. But like I said, the message is in the beginning. Just enjoy this sh!t [J.E.T.S.] and I’ll update with something cooler in a bit.
P.S.: We working over here. If you wanna know the designers who are creating the masterpiece that is the headquarters for The Great Progression, holler at me.

Any person in a sticky circumstance can relate to this song. The sample is insane, from an old Bob Marley song I believe, and is one of the hardest Supreeme songs I’ve ever heard. You may have heard the song a while ago (get it here if you haven’t), but this video has a new verse that’s not on the mp3 version. I don’t know who that guy is, but he kills his 16 bars. Enjoy it. i dedicate it to my seniors who aren’t sure they’re on track for graduation, and my people in economical binds. We’ll make it out.
The first time I heard these guys, I think it was with my girl Alex. She had all these tracks on a random CD, and I popped it in the car’s stereo system. I got to this joint and brought it back like 30 times. This was the song I heard. It’s unreleased, and I don’t know if they’ll be upset that I’m throwing it to the internet, but I’ll tell you one thing: it’s trill. It’s from ’06 or ’07, but it just made sense to give it to you guys today.

Well, that party was incredible. Thanks to everybody who came out to support, as well as those who tried but had prior engagements. A special shout out to those who attempted to get in after the event reached capacity; the Donovan House Hotel couldn’t have been any more unreasonable about that situation, but that’s a different story entirely.
Long story short, we packed the joint, people enjoyed themselves, and The Great Progression / DC to BC, LLC has pulled off another successful event. This time, we’d like to thank Christine and Allison of Lunchbox Theory for letting us jump on board with them, as well as my big brother Daniel of YEBies, who I wanted to get into the mix as well. The all-around diversity of people that we got to come out for this joyous occasion was incredible, for lack of a more fitting word, and I’m very excited to see what’ll be next as far as an event for the people who support this movement I like to call The Great Progression.
Check out the first of (hopefully) several short video segments that document this wonderful experience, shot (and flipped in record time!) by my brother Mike Sanchez.
Feel free to throw this video around, embed it, and pass it to people who you know were there, but don’t know that this footage is available. The Gee Pee. Coming soon.

Nah, it’s not a diss! It’s actually quite the opposite. Following previous cut “Get Money” featuring G5 Clive & Carlitta Durand, M1 Platoon drops another track from their upcoming mixtape Rippin’ They Sh!t. This time around they cover Drake‘s Boi-1da produced track, “It’s Been a Pleasure,” renaming it “Cheesecake Drake.”
Ripping They Sh!t will be released August 10th. The mixtape will be a compliation of original raps over industry beats. Come back here to grab it. If you’ve been here since ’08, you know we’ve featured M1 a few times, whether it be in mixtape form, or as background music for such thought-provoking posts as “Could You Wife The Rolla?“. Ha. Enjoy!

Big Boi‘s solo effort, Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty, has been widely considered the album of the 2010, both from the obnoxious bloggers and column writers, and the average music enthusiast. Who would have thought? Everybody’s been waiting for Andre 3000 to make an appearance, but ‘Twan surprised damn near everybody with this album. We’ve supported the man with an album purchase, and you should as well if you haven’t already done so.
Now, down to business. DC to BC has somehow finagled a few of these Big Boi x Good Wood NYC pieces, and is giving them to DC to BC readers that are also Big Boi stans. The only real way I’m determining who gets one of these joints is just who wants them the baddest. I got two that I’m willing to let go of, but if I find three people that go above and beyond, then three people will be blessed with the Sir Luscious Leftfoot-inspired wooden medallion.
All I ask? A retweet of this post, @ replying @DCtoBC (that’s me!). The easiest way to do this is by using the “Tweet This” feature (it’s the widget below this post that has a green button labeled “Tweet!”). That puts you in the running. Winners will be selected at random, but if you do something that shows us you deserve it more than the next person, we’ll notice.
If you know OutKast die-hards who’d love this specialized Good Wood piece, tell them about this contest! We’re running it for the day and I’ll announce the winner in an updated version of this post, as well as on Twitter nation sometime on Wednesday, July 14. Thanks!
Oh, don’t forget to get your Big Boi social media fix:

The Great Progression is at it again. Me and my DC to BC, LLC team jump on concerts, while my project, entitled The Great Progression (or “The Gee Pee” for short) focuses on the good times. You saw our last cookout, right? If not, check out video footage here (I see you, Lifah!). It wasn’t a game. As many as 300 people came out to enjoy the best cookout and kickback of 2010. Maybe even in the last five years. It was that monumental. Everybody just came out to connect, politic, ditto. I couldn’t have been more happy with how every thing turned out. When The Gee Pee drops, look out for the photos and more video footage from that.
On to the next one, though. And the next one is this weekend at the Donovan House in DC, on the rooftop. BRING OUT THOSE TANKINIS AGAIN, LADIES! Saturday, July 17th. People are coming from hours away for the sake of good times! Do you realize this? Our parties aren’t to stunt. They’re for people to get together and talk, and to inspire and motivate. We don’t even make money like that on these. We just do it for the love, and to break away from the typical “event” where you have promoters yapping to you about bottle service and you’re worried about looking cute for people. Eff all that. This is the real deal, Holyfield. HUGE shout out to Lunchbox Theory for putting this joint together; it’s really them that brought The Gee Pee and YEBies on board, but we will do our best to make sure the mix of people is phenomenal, per usual.
In closing, if you’ve been to any of our (Lunchbox Theory, DC to BC / The Gee Pee, or YEBies) events, then you’ll definitely come through to this joint. If you need to be persuaded, then do some research, ask around. They’ll tell you who throws the trillest stuff in this area. Fall through, we’d love to have you. Click the flier for more info (or here. But how much cooler is clicking the flier, you know?)
It’s free, by the way. Yeah. top that sh!t. I double dog dare you.

On July 23rd, almost two weeks from today, Cleveland’s new king (LeBron dipped, remember?) Chip Tha Ripper will be killing the stage at NYC’s renowned Santos Party House. I know you see that DC to BC logo on the flyer, too. If you’re in the city on 7.23.10, definitely stop by the spot! 18 and up, so don’t think that if you can’t sip legally, don’t worry. You can at least fall through and enjoy a great concert. Great guest DJs, surprise guests, and all around great times. BUY TICKETS HERE! $12 in advance; I highly recommend it, because this joint will sell out.
The SLAB ENT family has embraced us ever since my man Quinn put me on to his tape two years ago and we were one of the first people to blog it. The team works so hard, and I was fortunate enough to see that first-hand over at SXSW a few months ago. Kev (the man behind the scenes – I know he doesn’t like to be mentioned, but he deserves to be!) came to scoop me and we chopped it up. It’s always cool when you take it further than this internet $#!t. Posting stuff is cool, but being an integral part of an artist’s growth from early on in their career is priceless.
Don’t let me get too sappy, though. Come through at like 10ish, Chip goes on at 11! I’ve seen the guy perform a bunch of times, and he’s good. We’ll get some mixtape refreshers up in the coming days to prepare you for this momentous occasion, so don’t worry if you’re not hip yet.
I was thinking earlier today, “Why doesn’t anybody get stung by bees anymore?” Like if you really think about it, you’ve gotta be doing something very, very wrong if you’re slow enough to get caught slipping by a bee. Why is that? Has evolution forced these buzzing bastards (that used to haunt me every time my jumper rimmed out and crash-landed into the bushes that housed their nests. Talk about vivid, dude.) into extinction? Are we just getting faster and these bees can’t keep up with our swiftness? Or has the world’s evolutions and man’s technology somehow crippled these guys indefinitely? Who knows.
One thing’s for sure, though. I’ve definitely been run up on a few wasps as of recent. I’m always shook. I’m the guy who will lose his marbles if a wasp flies by, and I’ve never known how to act. Luckily, my brother Ty Cody passed this nice little PSA over my way to inform me. I figured I’d share it with you, because otherwise, we’d both be S.O.L. Enjoy.
So next time you cross paths with one of these bad boys, you’ll know how to act.
Why? Because I said so! The people who’ve downloaded Culdesac have encouraged me to continue to spread the gospel that is Childish Gambino aka comedian/actor/creator Donald Glover Grab his earlier tapes I Am Just A Rapper 1 & 2 below, where he rhymes effortlessly over indie rock beats (except that “Exhibit C” that for some strange reason had the world talking about it. It was cool, but I mean, come on. Don’t make me talk about that here though. That’s for an in-person discussion.).
If you have an eclectic ear, you may recognize a bunch of these joints. The tapes are also critically acclaimed. You be the judge as to which is triller; my vote’s with the first, but the second has jams too. If you’re confused as to who this guy is, then go check the post I did on him a little while ago.

You would have been 21 today, man. When I heard the news, I couldn’t even believe it. Both of you guys. I’ve been struggling to make sense of it since the night I found out. My only explanation is that everything happens for a reason, and I’m sure it’ll make sense to me eventually. It’s Thursday, so you already know that “F*ck You Thursday” will be in full effect all night like you used to do on Twitter. #FYT. I regret never taking your invitations to participate! Now I’m anxious to see what #FYT pop up in my timeline. One of the last things you ever said to me was, “I cordially invite you to participate in #FYT.” Ha! We miss you and Khalifah, man. A lot. I never really dealt with anything like this before, and I can’t even imagine how difficult this time is for everybody. That being said, Nasser, Majidah, and Haki are pretty strong about the whole thing. Your mother, too. I haven’t talked to your dad yet, but the pride with which he spoke about you and your brother on the news, it was amazing. You guys were special, really. I heard that they had to have the vigil and the funeral outside because so many people showed up. That’s the kind of effect you guys had on everybody, including me.
The Great Progression is dedicated to you and your brother. So believe that I’ll put every ounce of energy I have into making it something really awesome. I bet Khalifah’s prolly filming it all up there, but when he gets a second from those Final Cut Pro edits, tell him I say what’s up. I named my camera after him. I call that joint the Khalifah Cam. He’s part of the reason I got it. And I hope you’re still making some music up there. I remember the freestyle sessions in the old house! Encouraging me to write and stuff. It’s crazy how you don’t even realize everything that you’ve done with a person until you really sit back and think about the experiences and memories you shared. Even the little moments like running into you at Dave & Buster’s and you hooking me up with a good table and extra food or a charge card, man.
When I was over your crib, everybody was huddled around the computer watching the videos you and Lifah had. There’s so many. Hundreds! It’s amazing that even though you’re gone, we can bring you guys back to life for a few moments by pressing play. I gotta get over to the crib again to watch some more. I’m helping your mom and sister build the memorial site, and hopefully it’ll be up soon. I have a bunch of pictures from the cookout of you and Lifah aka Thug Funnie that I gave to Nasser last week. I know you saw the footage from it, too! Khalifah chopped it up pretty good.
I don’t even know what to say besides I miss you, man. I’m sure we’ll be reunited again in due time. Phatz, Fred Williams, Idris, whatever the name, you were great.
Rest In Peace Idris and Khalifah! Thank you to the people that came out to support and donate to their memorial fund and helped paid for the funeral. Everybody from our Sidwell family to people who didn’t know Idris or Khalifah at all, I appreciate you guys so much, and the Muhammad family appreciates it even more than me. If you’re interested in donating, hit me up via e-mail (modi[at]DCtoBC.com) and I will send you all the appropriate information so that you can help out. Below are links to some of the media coverage pertaining to the accident, for informative purposes.
