two things. i woke up and 2dopeboyz had goodies just waiting for me. like a gift bag at some kinda party or something. new jay-z and j. cole. yes, you just read that. critical.

also, karen civiljust cised me with this info about j. cole performing at NYU on september 12, and i figured i’d let you in on the good news. happy to see this man succeed. my homie nyle, who you may know from his craaaaazy video rendition of d’wayne carter’s “let the beat build” is a recent NYU grad (and former def jam intern, we were working hard in that building!) who will also be performing. let’s get it.
With the VMA’s around the corner, the list of performers are becoming more and more clear by the day. The entire weekend has unofficially been centered around that of Roc Nation. That Friday, September 11, Jay-Z will release his highly anticipated LP, Blueprint 3. On Sunday, the 13th, the actual awards show will air including a performance from Jay.
On Saturday, the 12th, Roc Nation’s first signee, J. Cole, will be performing live at New York University’s Kimmel Center in the 4th floor E&L Auditorium. The event, which is being thrown by NYU’s Gentlemen of Quality, will be hosting the event. Here is the need-to-know info:
*Doors open at 8:15 pm for press/VIP and 8:30 for general public.
*Tickets are $7 for NYU students and $10 for non-students. These can be purchased online for students (NYUHOME) or at NYU’s Ticket Central on the 2nd floor of the Kimmel Center.
*Tickets MUST be purchased prior to the event.
The intimate atmosphere will also allow for audience members to ask questions directed at J. Cole. As an added bonus, new material will also be played here for the first time. Half of the proceeds from this event will go towards GQ’s Martin Jackson Scholarship Fund. Jackson was a high school student GQ mentored who lost his life in the spring of 2008 due to gun violence.
Nyle, a NYU alum whose video adaption of Lil’ Wayne’s “Let The Beat Build” has been a YouTube sensation, is slated to be one of the opening acts.
press play before you read a cot’ damn thing. and note: this idea wasn’t brought up by me. it was a friend’s idea, and i thought the question was valid. plus, the song goes so well with it, i needed to actually see what the masses thought about the combo of the question and the song in one blog post. ha.

simple as that. DC heads, you already know what a “rolla” is. for the people not from around that area, urban dictionary can define it for you:
someone (usually a female, but can definitely be applied to males as well) who will have sex with anybody/everybody and continuous to next guy after guy/girl after girl. also has an additional connotation of a person that gives oral sex. “man she a rolla!”
“i don’t mess with rollas”
the meaning of word basically means moving on to next guy to next guy (or girl), you’re rolling around. that’s why the word is called “rolla.”
so tell me, guys. could you? don’t lie. let’s talk about it. and that song you heard above was from M1 platoon’s mixtape, available here. so get that (or if you just want “wife the rolla”, here it is. but you should get the whole thing too.), and then discuss. ok? ok!

it’s monday. the most mundane day of the week, by far. instead of starting your week off horribly like the typical monday (school, work, school and work, or something else horrible), i’m gonna try and make it something to look forward to. i’m throwing out links to worthwhile things to read to jumpstart the worst day of all-time. yes, this will be a regular occurance. and yeah, i got up at 6:45 am, left coast time, to get it ready for my east coast people. isn’t that thoughtful!? shout out to the students that start school today, or sometime this week. enjoy it, because when it’s over, you may find yourself blogging to make ends meet. trust me.
- the internet goon explains what qualities he needs in his perfect wifey. a must-read that i agree with almost 100%. call us picky, but hey, when we’re married, you’ll be like, “damn, modi and ricky have some crucial wives, man. wish i read his list a little more thoroughly way back when.” [via Internet Goon]
- get your fix of eclectic jams for the week from these DMV-based representers, who recently redesigned their site. [via IllVibes]
- song recognition software that is out of this world. you can HUM the song and it’ll find it for you. [via Mashable]
- did your school make GQ’s list of 25 douchiest colleges? maybe, maybe not. but you know you wanna know what schools did. there’s only one way to find out. [via GQ]
- can i plug things i wrote on this blog in this space? oh, indeed. the intricacies of the alley oop. no, you didn’t read that wrong. check it out. [via DC to BC]
five things worth reading, that should make the morning that much triller. cuz the fact of the matter is, if you don’t check them all out, your monday could look something like this.

this week’s episode is dedicated to all my college students moving back on campus, from the newly minted freshmen to the experienced OG seniors. your university probably laced you with basic cable, and of course no HBO. maybe you’re in a forced triple, top bunk. maybe you’re cooped up in that suite with a guy who wipes his dirty hands after dinner with the same towel he uses after showers. there’s probably no way of seeing tonight’s episode. except right here. enjoy.
now, back to business. “the sorkin notes” is the name of this week’s episode, the eighth of the sixth season.
the trill synopsis of the episode: eric decides to meet with sloan, but rethinks their whole relationship after gollum ashley calls him. andrew’s back to his basket case ways when he has a meltdown that puts a big deal in jeopardy. and finally, vince and the boys call in some professional help after last week’s burglary.
so now you have that. here’s the HD (hella dope) video streaming, as well as the link(s) to download the new episode. and if it’s your first time on this site, i’ll assure you, ain’t no bull$#!t product here.

amerie’s touch album was one of my favorite joints in recent years, and then she disappeared for a while. she’s too sexy to just fall off the map! at least get some modeling done or something! believe it or not, amerie is a DMV representer. she even went to georgetown, man. anyway, here’s her latest leak from her def jam debut album. she recruited wayne, and he did alright. the track has a very mainstream sound, but it’s smooth, and plus, i figure since i never put R&B up, i should do so. shout out to my ninja over at P&P for this.

you know why this mixtape is trill? because it’s a compilation CD that hit me outta nowhere. all DMV artists, some of whom you’ve heard of or seen on this blog or elsewhere (ice tha villain, phil ade, pro’verb, etc.), and some of who i’ve never heard of. it all rocks. it’s like one of those DJ smallzsouthern smoke mixtapes from back in the day where you just jam it all and every song . tracklisting and download below, as well as a little sample of what to expect. great riding music. and i’m telling you this joint CRANKS!

i love iron mike, and i love conan. the two of them make magic together on the screen, as this interview illustrates. ha. but really, watch it. mike’s first public appearance since his daughter’s unfortunate accidental death. and if you haven’t seen any mike tyson documentaries in your life time, you better get on your google game. or better yet, e-mail me. i’ll send them to you. in HD quality. he’s really a great guy that got eaten up alive by the media and used and abused by the people he surrounded himself with. shout out to internet goon for putting me on this.

wale’s “world tour”, produced by cool & dre, features jazmine sullivan, and with all the money it cost to get all those people on the track, it might as well be on the album. that’s my take, anyway. i feel like the international fans will love this joint, too. you tell me how you feel about it.

added the bonus track so those who might not know where wale got the inspiration for his hook. and let’s talk for a minute. am i the only guy who isn’t sure if q-tip says “award tour” or “a world tour”? the latter makes more sense, but look at the title of the song! goodness. that’s been iggin me for like the last 10 years. somebody let me know.

i’ve been reading everywhere that cudi’s debut album got great reviews at the listening session earlier this week, so my homie DP over from Dat New Cudi laced me with the exclusive album sampler. i won’t front like i don’t think it sounds cool, because it does. reminds me of a movie score than just an album. it’s like 808 & Heartbreaks, but in 2047. it’s some different $#!t, for lack of better terms. i’ve put a stream of the album sampler below, plus a download (one track, a little less than 8 minutes long). enjoy.
