colin munroe’s demo is the first gem i dug up in the millions of boxes of submissions during my first year interning at def jam. i gave the demo to my boss, and she dug it. she gave it to jay brown, and he liked it, but said he needed a little more development. i e-mailed him and said, “dude, keep me in the loop with your whereabouts!” and he did so.

that was ‘06, and now it’s ‘09. the toronto-born crooner has come from a solid demo to a whole lot of blog love, a powerful mixtape featuring the likes of features  wale, drake, jim jones, 88-keys, and a bunch of other respectable artists. he actually produces himself, and he’s not too shabby, either (he was involved the production of all but one song on his latest mixtape, the unsung hero). you may remember him from his version of ‘ye’s “flashing lights” that dropped a year or so ago. if you don’t, or you’ve been waiting for more to drop from my man colin, here you go. an incredibly upbeat track (for the title it has, at least) that i coulda heard a ‘04 kelis on. maybe he needs to enlist her for the remix to get her mind off the pending divorce. oh boy. enjoy.
