it’s back. the trillest afrobeat mixtape series ever, dropping just in time for the coinciding afrobeat party hosted by the sexy ass ladies of LunchBox Theory on U street tomorrow, friday july 31st. DJ underdog still hittin’ ‘em with that live mix – no serato either, straight vinyl baby! wowzers.
not sure about what afrobeat is? well, here’s a definition:
Afrobeat is a combination of Yoruba music, jazz, highlife, and funk rhythms, fused with percussion and vocal styles, popularized in Africa in the 1970s. Its main creator was the Nigerian multi-instrumentalist and bandleader Fela Kuti who used it to revolutionise musical structure as well as the political context in his native Nigeria. It was Kuti who coined the term “afrobeat” upon his return from a U.S. tour with his group Nigeria 70 (formerly Koola Lobitos).
exactly. this is truly some special music, and i implore everybody to get on it, because it’s a pretty trill genre. we posted the first mixtape a few weeks ago; grab it HERE.

meet moshadee. newark, NJ resident, 1/5 of PFOP (one of my favorite blogs), and a man of many trades, rap being one. he threw me two flows over two of my favorite beats, jeezy’s “bottom of the map” and the clipse’s “i’m good”, so you know i had to show the man some love! he’s rappin’ out here and i respect that. look out for that mixtape, the progression, dropping mid-august.

best wayne track i’ve heard in a minute, in all honesty. a lost track from that 2007 gangsta grillz album by DJ drama. it’s not yet complete, but almost there. dj drama in there as wayne’s boxing coach. pretty trill if you ask me. and lauren london is there cuz she’s about to have wayne’s million dollar baby. so eat it.

the clipse sat down with the one and only @northwestnick recently at the youresopop facilities in the big apple. listen to what the 2 halves of the clipse and half of the re-up gang had to say about their upcoming lp and their play clothes line that’s rippin up the streets.

i feel like MTV jams right now, because my patterns of posting are subtle but definitely purposely done. went from one DMV rapper to another, except the second had that west coast flavor with his track. so it’s only right to hit you guys with some actual west coast emcees. veterans at that. DJ quik & kurupt put out their latest album, blaqout, and it features a whole lot of quik’s production. this is one of the joints, and it’s insane. get ready for it to get some play in the iTunes. shout out to stefano for making me realize that quik was still relevant today!

man oh man, this track is ridiculous. produced by mo digga. west coast anthem from a DMV artist. no joke. marky spittin’, the synths are hittin’, the entire thing is something you would hear in game’s 6-4 impala. and he isn’t even jump on this beat, man – he’s frolicking. it sounds too easy for him.
