yep. 20 days or so. consider this joint shut down. my parents gave me one of those, “we do so much for you, and this is how you repay us?” speeches in the car on the way to the airport home from easter break. so i decided, wow – you’re right. i need to step my game up. pull my own weight! make them proud at the tender age of 22.

it’d be unfortunate if i had all these family members coming from nigeria, from england, from antigua, from around the US to a boston college graduation that i’m not even in. so let me grind real quick. i’ll be back around after finals. that’s like may 8th. stay with me though, don’t forget about me. i remember a wise young woman that i used to crush on bet that i couldn’t stay away for the internet for like 30 days. i tried it and failed. so here’s the 2nd attempt. i will probably fail, but i’ll give it a valiant effort. definitely no major blog posts unless i get a job worth letting you know about or think of a crazy mix compilation to throw out there.

hit the blogroll for the time being to stay entertained. my favorite blogs? i have none. but ricardo’s my roommate and goes in with reckless abandon the most, so make sure you visit internetgoon.com during my absence. he’ll make you laugh. or frown. but at least you’ll display some emotion.

oh, and catch me and him hosting this event at wellesley college (it’s an all girls women college. people like hilary clinton went there. trust me, it’s a power move.). you gotta come through.

“i doo doo, i boo boo, i poo poo, i sh!t on em.”

yup. thats the hook on this banger from gorilla zoe. i know this isn’t in the least bit lyrical, but it’s hilarious and the boy zaytoven, super producer of the century (according to gucci mane), laced the track. check it out.

i really like these dudes out of ohio. fly union has some knock to their stuff, and i’m a fan. i don’t know why the rest of them aren’t rapping in this joint, but they make appearances. features rashad, the guy who made that crucial “tell ‘em what they wanna hear” joint a few years back. wish i knew who directed it so i could shout them out, too.

Chester French – Jacques Jams, Vol. 1: Endurance [Re-Upped w/ Working Link].

chester french - jacques jams. DCtoBC.com

i have been waiting for this for weeks, and it’s finally here. star trak’s newest signees, rockstars chester french, deliver a mixtape free album just two weeks before their debut drops in stores everywhere. i’m serious.

as band members D.A. and Max explain,

“Jacques Jams, Vol. 1: Endurance” is a chronicle of the past six years of our lives. It tells our story, from the gymnasiums of Harvard to the hills of Hollywood. Unlike “Love the Future,” which we’ve written, arranged, performed, produced, and engineered by ourselves, “Jacques Jams” features a collection of new, original music that we created in the hills of Massachusetts and then invited some of our favorite artists to grace.

As young artists, we couldn’t be more grateful for this opporunity to collaborate with legends like Jermaine Dupri, Diddy, Pharrell, Pusha, Talib Kweli, Bun B., The Mad Rapper, Kardinal Offishall, N.O.R.E, and Jadakiss as well as younger friends like Janelle Monae, Cassie, Wale, Solange, Lady Gaga, and Mickey Factz. All of these fantastic artists have been more than generous with their creativity and hard work, so we owe them an enormous debt. Clinton Sparks, above all, has tirelessly guided us toward success and endurance, a tall order with obnoxious perfectionists like us! We’d also like to thank Clinton’s manager, Daouda Leonard, for his endless help and beautifully manicured beard.”

so there you have it. what mixtape album has this many incredible guests on it? like, go back up and read the names in bold. i bolded them so you could see whose on the tape. no other rock act has this much pull, i’ll tell you that much. i’ve seen these guys live twice, and they were incredible. i implore you to scoop this freebie right here. it’s gonna be the best thing you’ve heard in a minute. seriously. the star power is way too serious on this joint.

Big Sean – Supa Dupa.

big sean. DCtoBC.com

the first joint from big sean that i ever heard didn’t impress me at all. but when i heard pharrell was in the studio with him working on the album, i had to give him a second chance. so i downloaded a mixtape, and heard a snippet of this song. it cut off in the middle of the second verse, and i went mad trying to find a full version. HERfection cised me with it the other day, and i’ve been playing it ever since.  this is indeed coolest rhyme scheme as of late. just listen to the first verse and you’ll see what i mean. or not. but you’ll at least see what i’m saying. it’s produced by WrighTrax, and the beat is wild too.

Cush Cush – Late Night Session, Vol. 1.

l 30ec1fc15665ea728d80ff007ef235 1 Cush Cush Late Night Session, Vol. 1.

re-up cuz my mp3 player site went down earlier!

so i hit atlanta last spring, solo like i usually do when i make power moves, and i posted up with my cousin for about a week out in an area called cascade. that’s when i was introduced to some of the greatest music ever made.

i introduce to you CushCush, a duo out of h-town, texas. made up of my man b*luckett (on the right) and his man ace boon coon, the two have been DJ’ing for a minute, and love to jam that stuff with heavy drum breaks, crucial synths, and good vocals. i don’t even really know the genre they specialize in, but if i had to call it anything, i would say it’s a vicious mix between drum ‘n’ bass (D&B, google that stuff, it’s big in the UK!) club/house, and hip hop. essentially, i’m talking about any music that you want to just jam to, they fuck with and incorporate into their sets. it can be madonna, it can be project pat. and typically, it’s a mash-up of both.

anyway, after they sensed my intrigue, they gave me some required [online] reading material to get more acquainted with this type of music, like discobelle. i’ve been DL’ing these mixes ever since. great gym music! i’m sharing it with you. i kinda figure this is the future of music, because it combines all genres and types of people (hipsters, hip hop heads, ravers, suburbs, city folk, you get the idea) and makes the ultimate party-going experience, if you’re the open-minded type. in fact, i was in the A a few weeks ago, and my cuz and b*luckett took me to this spot, MJQ, which was probably the illest experience i’ve had in a club. ever. let me know how you feel about this 30-minute set right here, and be on the look out for more mixes just like this in the future.

i’ve been watching a lot of new comedians to inspire me. two dudes you need in your life? demetri martin and the late and great mitch hedberg. i’ve put some of demetri’s stuff up a while back, but mitch is maybe my new favorite. his one-liners are so powerful, they’ve inspired me to keep a journal (in my blackberry. so maybe like an e-notepad, i guess.) of jokes. anytime i’m bored, i’ll write one in there. before i know it, i’ll have material for an open mic somewhere. i’ll try some of them out on you guys in the future. for now, check out mitch.
