XXL magazine asked the question earlier today. i saw somebody in the comment section say this in regards to rappers and what percentage of their rhymes they believe:
Jay-z 95%
Nas – 60%
Rick Ross – 3%
Lil Wayne – 70%
Clipse – 65%
Havoc – 40%
Prodigy – 50%
Fat Joe – 30%
Currency – 10%
Drake – 99%
haha. i need to figure out who i believe and who i don’t. or actually, nah. i don’t. i don’t think i really care too much. it’s not like when i heard that there were holes in rick ross’ life story, i stopped jamming him. i just felt embarrassed for him. but he’s still trucking, so obviously that didn’t phase him too much. as long as the rappers write the rhymes, they can get as creative as they want. sure, it’s more trill if it is in fact reality, but who am i to judge? and matter fact, even people like puffy rapping on “is this the end?” are cool with me.
i thought this question was interesting, so i decided to share. check it out here, and feel free to leave your “who i believe” statements in the comment section.

lol i saw that too. That Rick Ross – 3% made me laugh. Also interesting is the Drake – 99%. Makes sense. I never really cared… it’s just wack when ppl like Ricky try to lie about it. Cube never lied about it.
Comment by sean beauford 03.03.09 @ 1:20 pmhahah rick ross = 3%
i dont really mind rappers embellishing a little bit
but i would have to say asher roth is probably pretty high up there as far as speaking the truth. hes a white kid from the ‘burbs and he doesnt pretend that he is something else.
Yeah but i’d rather asher roth make stuff up then listen to “i love college”, what garbage. I find Jay-Z’s rating a bit high, but then i realize that its so high because he really doesn’t talk about anything besides button-ups and being a CEO anymore. not coincidentally, his music has suffered since he stopped being “hood” and starting being real (?).
Comment by Zack 03.03.09 @ 2:49 pmI think 85% of rappers fabricate what they do/did. I think its alright if they can convey the story creatively. I doubt the Clipse moved that much weight but they creatively rap about it so well that you can hear them talk about it over and over and its never gets redundant like most of these “trapper rappers”. Now Rick Ross denied it so he can definatley be called a fake and phony. Wayne been on cash money since a youngin so I highly doubt he done all the shit he talk about especially being a “blood”. I guess its all about having integrity in your music.
Comment by B.Cas 03.03.09 @ 3:23 pmwho else, though? we keep on talking about the same people. how about royce the 5’9? UGK? lupe? i’m not ousting these guys, i just want to hear how people view other emcees besides the ones on that short list above.
Comment by modi 03.03.09 @ 3:44 pmsome of lupe’s stuff is on such another level that it hard to say whether or not you can believe it… but i would say most of it is true. take ‘and he gets the girl’ for example every line in that song/freestyle summed up who lupe is. when you look at ‘hip hop saved my life’ that is a great song but its not about lupe but he is not claiming it is about him.
Comment by John Q 03.03.09 @ 4:01 pmThe most believable rappers are the one’s who don’t rap about bein some kingpin or super thug. The Kanye’s, Lupe’s, Drake’s, etc. Then you got people who are DEAD honest like Eminem and Joe Budden. Em’ll rap about killin somebody but not like u think he did it… u just look at it as a psycho thought.
How do we know Kanye even went to college? It coulda all been made up. We assume it’s real cuz it’s believable and it’s not bad.

Comment by texastoker 03.05.09 @ 4:07 ami cosign with sean re: the most believable rappers.
i usually believe when they rap about just their thoughts, not actual things they’ve done but their views on certain things. and you can’t judge the futuristic things they say b/c that’s their imagination. i can’t say you are lying about your imagination lol.
i believe in everything that is andre 3000.
Comment by chelle 03.05.09 @ 6:19 pmfuckin right drake gets 99%

Trackback by stop spam plugin 02.05.12 @ 1:46 pmApple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.

Trackback by ares 02.07.12 @ 5:20 pmThe Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.
