Gotta say, the new version is pretty good.. but I gotta go with the OG.. Marsha is dope but not as tight as L Boogie..but the verses are pretty on point, he definitely didn’t dishonor the OG song.

I think they both speak for the time that they represent/represented!

I actually tune in to the show last night.. Right in time to here that only people 25 and older think Nas is better than Jay Z.. I got a good laugh out of that one!

the ‘09 version is good, but the ‘96 version is great.

The new version is okay. Nothing will beat the OG version, because when that first dropped and even though I was 9/10 years old, you had to know that song was going to be a classic that stood the test of time. This one? Not so much.

my money is on the 96′ version. like the beat is sick!
i do not like the new version. plus i have to hold lauryn hill down!
and Nas is the best rapper. his latest c.d is amazing! its embedded with all kinds of lessons that are really crucial to our development as a race..

ok, here i how i’m looking at it. if we are going from a purely song comparison, the OG version wins, i’m in no way sayin the new version isn’t good, I just prefer the hill version. BUT if we are going on the person himself, i take 09 nas.

the 96 nas spoke about his hood and struggles and what he saw around him. the 09 nas speaks on problems he’s seen world wide, the struggles of every man and the story of climbing to the top of the game. while the lyrics of 96 nas are monstrous, the 09 nas seems more thought provoking.

‘96 hands down. CLASSIC.

THAT SAID, the ‘09 version makes for a great pt. II. not a lot of people do great coming back to it, but my man Nas delivers, and don’t sleep on

‘96 version without a doubt.

Its difficult for a remake of a classic, to actually surpass the originality and boldness of the first version. Nas goes hard in both, but the beat and L-Boogie in the ‘96 version are REAL, and def choppin the ‘09.

i like both versions. i don’t want to compare Nas in ‘09 to Nas in ‘96 because I’m not the same person i was in ‘96. he’s always Nas, but his concerns and issues change with the time.

one thing i can say is the ‘96 version still goes hard today so that shows alot. i don’t think the ‘09 version is gonna rock like that 13 years later.
