Demetri Martin is Funnier Than Dave Chappelle.

demetri martin. DCtoBC.com

ok, he’s not quite funnier than chappelle. at all. a different type of humor altogether. but his deadpan one-liners make me laugh out loud, and that’s rare. all i’m saying is, get your game up on the man. he used to be on the daily show (right? correct me if i’m wrong. i’m not fact-checking today. i’m in a rush.), but now he’s got his own show on comedy central called “important things with demetri martin” and it’s great. i came across it by mistake and now i’m hooked. i’m letting you all watch the first episode so you can judge for yourself.

there you have it. i need feedback on this guy. apparently, and this is going to sound ridiculous, but i’ve seen him, and i don’t remember his act at all. DL hughley came to BC when i was a freshman, and demetri opened up for him! how do i not remember this guy?

oh, and doesn’t he look like he’s my age? he’s 35. cot’ damn.

Do You Know About Diamond District?

diamond district. DCtoBC.com.

i saw this a couple weeks ago, but work prevented me from throwing this your way sooner.

the diamond district is a hip hop group comprised of oddisee, X.O., and yU. all DMV representers brought together through music. oddisee is the person who decided to form this trio, from what i understand. he produces and raps, and does both incredibly. i first heard about him through the now-defunct scratch magazine. i feel like his whole approach to music is so different to everyone else in the area. he’s been a head figure in the DMV movement years before i knew the scene really existed, and has been patiently waiting, perfecting his craft, until now. i think anybody who cares about good, traditional hip-hop should watch this. it gives a lot of insight into the DMV scene, and offers a glimpse of each of the rapper’s everyday lives. pretty polished if you ask me.

wow. nice, right?! right. jam the first single, producded by oddisee and featuring verses from X.O. and yU.

bonus points if you know whose voice they sample on the hook. i think it says in the documentary, but i can’t remember. the project drops april 14 as a free download on their site, which you can check out here. i’ll remind you when that day comes, but i know you won’t forget.

the cleveland show.

coming fall ‘09, i believe. and did you know the dude who does cleveland’s voice isn’t even black? he had me fooled for the last 8 years. i got some video for this monumental show, and it all looks like the process is shaping up to be incredible. i heard kanye is already scheduled to show up in one of the first episodes, as well as sanaa lathan and other prominent celebrities. my only question is, does the show have black writers? i’m just asking.

anyway, make sure you watch the videos.

fam-lay. or shark city click. whatever. DCtoBC.com

i don’t know what happened, but apparently norfolk rapper and star trak signee fam-lay has changed his name to shark city click or something like that. oh well. i’m just happy i get to hear skateboard p and mr. rock n’ roll back together again. word on the street is, this joint is from that new fast & furious movie, and fam-lay shark city click has a rack of tracks on that bad boy.

he needs to stop touring with N*E*R*D though. he looks almost foolish out there with those rockers. make him a bodyguard! or keep him in the tour bus so he can write some more material.

oh and you guys out there, don’t you dare forget the good ol’ days:

this is a re-up. from july ‘08. almost a year ago.

if for some reason you didn’t feel him the first time, you will this time around.

this is monumental music, and i’m honored to be the guy to leak it. it’s so vicious that i’m tempted not posting anything else on this blog today. that way, it’ll be the only thing on everybody’s mind. unfortunately, i need to post a few things, but i feel like hope that by the end of the day, one of the big dog blogs would have snatched it, talking about “did you hear about that guy j. cole?”

yerp. that’s how i’m going. he reps fayetteville, NC as hard as fresh prince reps west philly. and furthermore, he makes all of his own beats. like this joint.

wale. road to attention: deficit. tracklisting. DCtoBC.com

this is a big project that the homies over at HipHopUpdate were gracious enough to let me jump on, and for that, i thank them. read on.

With the release of his single, the announcement of his promo tour as well as the release date for his next official mixtape, “Back to the Feature,” we felt it was perfect timing to put together a nice compilation of Wale’s work up until this point.

This compilation mixtape includes work from his past mixtapes (Paint a Picture, Hate is the New Love, 100 Miles & Running, The Mixtape About Nothing), as well as some live material and rarer freestyles. This is similar in style to our Cudi mixtape, that’s done almost 11,500+ Downloads so far.

We set out to call it the “Road” to Attention Deficit (his upcoming Interscope album) because his career has been a journey thus far – so we included live audio from the UK, Australia, California, etc. that captures his journey around the world.

so there you have it. thank you to everybody who was a part of this process! special shout outs to J.D. and clifsoulo!

Cole J. Cole Grown Simba.j. cole. DCtoBC.com

i’m back.

i’m only posting trill $#!t from here on out. here’s something new. hook this up to a powerful system and just let it bump. he’s the best rapper you’ve heard in ‘09. i don’t really care what you think, cuz that’s just what it is. i threw up the mixtape a while back, and some other loosies from him a while back. bammas didn’t listen. well, 2dopeboyz did. shout out to them. but now, after sean “jay-z” carter declared j. cole the first artist on the roc nation roster, everybody else wanna listen now! i’m not mad, but i’m just saying. it’s frustrating sometimes. imagine what an artist who knows he can rap goes through! i could never be an artist, i don’t have that bank full of pride yet.

good music is good music. good people are good people. j is both. i wish this man success in the future. jam this joint, and spread the good word.
