Filed under: audio/video, mixtapes, music, oh boy., politricks as usual, that's how i'm goin', welcome to DC
i’ll give you an idea of how good m1 platoon is.
i sent this mixtape to people in an email before even posting it. meaning i didn’t care that they got it from my site. i just wanted them to hear m1. and i swear to god this joint is incredible. nothing sounds like this at all. if you appreciate GOOD HIP HOP, then m1 platoon should be in your iPod, iTunes, boombox, car stereo, and every other place you can jam some music.
you haven’t heard about these dudes? well, they’re a rack of homies (most of which are from DC. just throwing that out there) who go to school out in north carolina, and who happen to have 9th wonder, producer extraordinaire, as their professor. i’m not even lying. so with 9th as their mentor, imagine what kind of music they create. in fact, you don’t even have to imagine, because i got it all for you right here. featuring biz markie, carlitta durand, g5 clive, and savin. oh, and huge shout out to vaughn aka arafat yates, one of the rhymers/producers in the squad. one of the few guys who gets really excited about music in general. i respect those kind of cats out there. without further ado, i’m throwing you the mixtape, complete with taste tests.

I gave this a listen. They’re not making a dent in my headphones though. Not hating at all. Nothin’ but love for d.c., but I’m just not feeling it. The lyrics are alright. Many of the metaphors fell on deaf ears to the point where I was constantly going back but still not getting it. Just me? Who knows. Just throwing out my honest opinion. Please don’t “beef” with me lol. But I’d appreciate some feedback and would love to entertain the convo.
Comment by The Watchmen 01.06.09 @ 12:54 pmP.S. Album production didn’t seem like all that. Was it all 9th Wonder?
Comment by The Watchmen 01.06.09 @ 12:55 pmWE NOT THEM was more like THEY NOT “IT”
I’ve been looking for more artists and groups that flow away from the mainstream garbage we hear today. M1 Platoon definitely breaks away from what we hear from the airwaves. Good looks on that. But unfortunately, like the mainstream, there seems to be nothing there. What are they talkin’ bout??? Don’t fall into the same trap of the startups. For me they’re shooting blanks. Some noise, yes, but you gotta bleed on the track. I’ll give ‘em the benefit of the doubt and maybe try again, but do I really wanna put in another two quarters to continue? We’ll see. (No worries. With hip-hop in the “dark ages” everyone seems to have unlimited lives)
P.S. Production wasn’t all that was cracked up to be. Was it all 9th Wonder? It was all over the place. I understand. It’s a mixtape, but still, could’ve been a LOT better.
Comment by The Watchmen 01.06.09 @ 1:19 pmha. nah, no beefing. i like people who voice their opinion. too many people are co-signers, sometimes you need somebody to shake shit off a bit. plus, how can people improve if they don’t know what they’re doing wrong?! good work.
i don’t agree with you completely, but i hear you. also, the production credits are above. 9th made one beat, arafat made a bunch, and some other dudes made the rest.
Comment by modi 01.06.09 @ 6:03 pmLOL @ WE NOT THEM was more THEY NOT IT.
Interesting comments. Downloading now and will judge for myself.
Comment by RAP 01.13.09 @ 1:38 pmOnly one 9th Wonder beat?
Damn Modi, with a hyped up description like that I was looking forward to some big tunes.
Im not saying im not feelin them cuz they only got that one super-producer beat, just the way you praised their lyricism and creativity, I was really expecting a hell of a lot more from these cats. Kind of a let down really. Nothing special.
But on another note id really like to see more of those Blast Off tapes you put together, I got tha three on here now, first tunes I put onto tha iPod ha.
