Indeed, very sad news. Ever since I’ve wanted to get into the A&R field, I’ve always looked up to Shakir as a form of inspiration, like I can become this one of these days. It’s cool that he seemed like a humble person – as you already know it’s hard to find anyone showing a glimpse of humility in this industry. My prayers go out to his family and friends.

You know I co-sign on that Modi.. He really wasn’t the normal music biz person in terms of how he treated people regardless of level in the organization. Unfortunate loss.

A great man who gave me and my team a chance when nobody would even
let us in the door, he did.
I learned so much about this game from shakir and will remember his words forever.
he told me not to just depend on a” deal” to succeed, but do what you gotta do on the independent level to build worth and respect. so you have a chance to actually make money and not just sit the bench on a label.
when he looked at me, lake and benny and said ” ya’ll know what you gotta do, so do it!!”
we left feeling like we had a mission and nothing would stop us!
but that’s the kind of energy shakir possessed and the world will be less “fresh” without
his influence.
you will be missed and prayers are with your family and loved ones..

Thats life I guess. I think the best way to honour our idols and people we look up to is to live the life we wish we did. Power to all of you.

compared to the age of the typical exec running a label, this brother was VERY young. he had a lot of decades in the music biz in front of him, so it’s a shame his life was cut so short. my friend also speculated about foul play, but i won’t speculate for the sake of his family. i hope the situation is thoroughly investigated and i pray for all his people to stay positive despite this loss.

this shit been fucking with me all weekend. i can’t call it. he was extremely humble, on all of our interactions. restinpeace, indeed.

Shakir was a good friend and a great guy. He was always honest and real. An intelligent, determined and always always had a smile on his face. God bless! RIP.

I loved Shake on every level and what happen to him is just so unreal. Like everyone else I just can’t wrap my mind around the fact that he’s gone.
