of movies.

i remember when me and my best friend lexi aka lex bubble were posted up over at her crib. it was prolly like 11th grade. we made a pact that we would become millionaires before 25. well, that was our goal anyway. that was when we were like 16, 17. now, i’m 22. my birthday just past. i’m getting gray hairs. my body ain’t what it used to be. to be blunt, i’m getting old as sh!t.

it’s whatever though. i have like 3 and a half years to pull off our master plan of a 7-digit bankroll. i soon realized 6 figures is much more realistic. but then i also realized, it’s not all about the money. i just want to live nice. a nice girl, a nice whip, and a nice lil crib. apartment, house, mansion, who knows. the only reason that i can’t completely give up on operation: MB25 is because money makes the haters hate even harder.

let me explain. if i have a sucker, or a squad of suckers, who doesn’t like me on campus, or back home, or where ever, i need to make sure i can talk money, so they can’t talk back. because when they’re like, “yo, what’s that fool modi doing with his life?”, people can be like, “oh, he just bought a yacht. and took his whole crew to each island of the carribean, for two weeks. and paid for it all.”

exactly. what can you even say back?

that is just a fantasy that seems unattainable right now. but honestly, when i get stack some cheese, my first treat to myself upon success shall be an impeccable movie collection. i didn’t say a movie theater room with reclining seats. i didn’t say a 96-inch, plasma, uber-expensive joint with more functions than i can handle. i just want the movies, mayne. DVDs, blu-ray’s, whatever the technology is when i turn 25, that’s what i’m purchasing. i was updating my favorite movies on the ‘book, and i decided to throw that list up here, verbatim:

rocky, memento, the departed, breakfast club, the prestige, donnie darko, cruel intentions, slums of beverly hills, euro trip, truman show, belly, dead presidents, high fidelity, back II the future 2, the holiday, a guide to recognizing your saints, pleasantville, requiem for a dream, big daddy, pulp ficition, the godfather, blow, menace 2 society, the warriors, casino, apacolypto, love actually, mallrats, anchorman, the bourne movies, minority report, boyz in the hood, love and basketball, forrest gump, billy madison, waiting, the illusionist, spider-man (all 3), meet the parents, ali g’s bling bling.

jumper was weak as sh!t. it had the best trailer i’ve seen in some years, and it just didn’t come through in the clutch.

i also think that the usual suspects could have made the list just based on its ending. but i feel like the rest of the movie was too confusing for me to even put it up there. i’m still debating, though.

a few sidenotes. the best movie on that list is high fidelity for three reasons: first, because john cusack is the best actor of all time in that movie. if i could act, i would have played that role in that movie. and second, because the soundtrack is eclectic and cathartic (read: emotionally purging, sorta like schindler’s list. i haven’t seen the movie, but on my SAT flash card, that was how they defined the word. using schindler’s list. so wikipedia or IMDB that movie if you want to know what it’s about!). thirdly, it’s a love story essentially told with music as one of the narrators. you can’t really beat that. besides that, there’s no true favorite. also, i just can’t fade anything too complicated, and anything scary. those works of art will never make my list. lastly, i give a rat’s a$$ about reviews. if rotten tomatoes doesn’t like it, whatever.

if i don’t make it to a millie, at least i’ma have my movies. and did anyone else see that none of the DVD’s listed are in that picture above? crazy, i tell you.

5.5.08 update: add being john malcovich and forgetting sarah marshall to the list. i heard ironman is supposed to be incredible. like, on the same tip as spider-man. i’ve already made a promise to see that with somebody when i get back home. summer time is basically when hollywood makes money, i’ve decided. what else should i see in ’08?
