apparently, the washington wizards (seemingly permanently injured with a trick leg that’s cost us the playoffs year after year after year) guard is crazy in love with barack obama. so crazy, in fact, that he’s tat-tat-tatted up with obama. and more. i caught this story over at sportaphile:
Every since Tuesday’s historical election, the U.S.A. has been running wild with over 50 million Obamamaniacs and Gilbert Arenas of the Washington Wizards may be the biggest one. Not only did Gilbert get Obama inspired tattoos, he’s also getting a mural at his home. SportsByBrooks has the goods:
“Arenas has decided to show his permanent support of President-elect Barack Obama with a tattoo. Arenas had the words “Change We Believe In” tattooed onto the fingers of his left hand in cursive writing. Then, Gilbert showed the outside of his pinky finger, which had “44? inked on it.
Arenas has gone all out for Obama, adding that he hired an artist last week to paint a mural with Obama’s family on one side and Arenas’s fiancee and children on another side of a wall in Arenas’s house. “He united people,” Arenas said of Obama. “By him winning, it showed the world that we’re not as racist as people think we are. I think that’s the beauty of [the election]. Not just because he’s the first African American president. America is not as bad as people think we are.””
Now… I’m a Barack Obama fan like most of you out there… but this is just a little “extra extra” in my opinion. Just think if you saw a few rednecks in Kentucky with George Bush tattoos and Dubya painted on the side of their barn… you’d probably say “these right wing jesus freak hicks are fanatical”.
now is that crazy or what!? and LOL at the picture. oh my goodness. and i HEARD the bamma was claiming he wasn’t voting for barack cuz he was down to raise taxes! somebody fact check that for me! we need to re-evaluate gilbert’s mental state. i think he’s ventured beyond normal, and is now stomping his size 12 reebok gil-zero’s around in the land of insanity. i’m just saying though. he needs to get his team in the right mindset…the wizards are the worst in the league with a woeful 0-6 start for the season. and those are my boys, but cot’ damn. we need a new day! gil has lost my respect until he: a. gets back on the damn court and fries people like he did kobe back in ’06 or b. removes the tattoos and rips down the stupid mural in his house. that’s just me. call me a hater. i used to love him like common used to love H.E.R. but now i can’t fade it.

Fuck gilbert
yeh i said it..i said that shit in Washington DC I said it, i said that shit in mo county maryland, i said it
He’s average on the court..this guy hits a bunch of game winners during an unimportant time in an unimportant season a couple years back and all of a sudden goes from an average player to agent fucking 0. he doesnt even play defense or make anyone around him better
next off all that talk about taking a cut to help the team…this guy knew he had to have surgery signed his big ass deal then told the team and public he needed surgery
finally and most important this guy recently said over and over he didnt support obama and had no intention to vote!
However, some players still refuse to get excited about the election. “People get sour-faced when you talk about politics and voting,” said Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas, adding that he doesn’t plan to vote.
Arenas, who is slated to earn $14.5 million this season after signing a six-year, $111 million contract this past summer to remain with the Wizards, said he is fearful that both candidates will raise his taxes.
“The first Bush said he wasn’t going to tax nobody,” Arenas said. “It doesn’t really matter who the president is. They say whatever they need to say to get in office.”
Comment by vince 11.12.08 @ 11:56 amGilbert Arenas really should keep his mouth shut and the tattoos off himself. This is a DESPERATE ploy for attention, and it’s working because we’re talking about it.
You wanna be an Obama follower? You wanna be down for change? Then GET INVOLVED! AND STOP ACTING A DAMN FOOL! YOU EMBARRASS NOT ONLY YOUR RACE BUT YOURSELF. HAVE SOME RESPECT AND DECENCY FOR YOURSELF. Supposed “grown-ass men” kill me at times
What the FUCK is Arenas blabbering about???

how is gilbert average??? the season you are referring to he was top 5 in scoring up there with lebron, kobe, and iverson! does that make them average too?! he was in talk for mvp that season too before he got injured. do average players win mvp trophies?! and how was that an unimportant season? they were first in the east! hate all you want but don’t call the dude average
Comment by THE Nick Simmons 11.12.08 @ 3:01 pmLet’s not lie to ourselves and say Gil is on the level of AI, Lebron, Kobe, D-Wade or anybody like that. He’s not. Preiod. He has been an average all around player, a good scorer, but alot of people could score like that given the opportunity to throw that many up. Second, I told you all before GIl is not your hero. He really doesn’t give a fuck about anybody that doesn’t pay his bills. He showed that with the “sign and sit” maneuver he just pulled on the Wiz Kids.
Second, Obama is not a hero yet. WE as a people (meaning young people, black people, americans in general) actually took our future into our hands finally. I think everybody is making a bigger deal out of the election which i believe is only phase one. He is in position to make a lot of positive changes for the country and the world, but he hasn’t done anything as president yet. We all know that politicians promise the world in campaigns and often deliver basically nothing. I’m not saying that’s what he plans to do, but it’s not fully a situation under his control.
But back to Gil. That mufuckas crazy. we all know that. This is the icing on the cake. this is like mariah carey marrying nick cannon. All we can do is scratch our heads and wonder. But seriously, i don’t know why he put this out there. Why would he tell people? Do what you do and keep your crazy to yourself man… it’s kinda creepin me out. One of the highest paid people in the area is bat-shit insane. In this crazy world…
Comment by che 11.12.08 @ 3:37 pmlol two things.
mariah carey saved nick cannon’s life.
tracy murray used to score buckets upon buckets for us. doesn’t he have the wizards’ high scoring record with like 64 or something? he was a beast. but i don’t know if he ever took us to the playofs. nobody looked at his as a superstar i bring that up just to say that just cuz you score it doesn’t mean you’re not above average. i don’t think, anyway. gilbert has disappointed me too much for me to even support him anymore. i’m all about antawn jamison now. he cares about the team, he’s not talking shit about his obama tattoos and murals, he’s talking about how his locker room morale is so fucking not there it’s embarrassing. he was like “yo, nobody even gets upset when we lose.” that’s the mindset of a winner. gilbert needs to show more passion on the floor. stop interacting with fans. stop blogging. it’s fucking your shit up, homie. it’s only been downhill since you started.
i hope that’s not forshadowing.
Comment by modi 11.12.08 @ 4:51 pmdid i not say he has been the best player on that team since he joined it? He does all the things only the people on the floor can appreciate. As much as i hate the Wizards and UNC, Jamison is a cold beast. He’s a Garnett type player in that he won’t always light up the stat sheet, but there’s no question that your team is immediately better with him on the court.
Comment by che 11.12.08 @ 5:59 pmi just don’t get how when a man is sky high on his way up everyone is loyal and faithful then dude gets injured for a season and everybody jumps ship. nobody wants to be a true fan anymore. everybody is fair weather and hops on bandwagons. all im saying is yes average players can score a lot of points. but to do it on a consistent basis puts him in another realm. like you said “… a lot of people could score like that given the opportunity to throw it up that many times”, isn’t that what iverson’s whole career has been based off of? for his career he’s only averaged .8 more assists than gilbert and .5 steals. their field goal stats are almost identical, but gil is the better 3 point shooter and free throw shooter and gets more boards. so with damn near identical stats how can gil be average and not iverson???
what you guys aren’t realizing is what gilbert as a player did for this franchise. without him the wizards would never have been on the map. he’s eccentric yes, but thats what has helped propel the growing fanbase. people talk about it, the wizards were the topic of discussion all because of gilbert both on and off the court.
now for everyone to all of a sudden cast that aside and call him selfish and disappointing is ludicrous. everyone loved him when he was healthy. everyone loved the blog too when he was healthy. now he gets hurt and sits out a season and everyone turns their back on him. and when did gilbert not have passion? if it were all solely about the money he would have bolted for the $128 million the warriors offered him. yeah he still got a lot but obviously, to take a lot less to stay must say something about how he felt about this franchise. if u don’t like the dude then just say you don’t like, but don’t make up false reasons for it.
Comment by THE Nick Simmons 11.12.08 @ 6:37 pmCo-Sign The Nick Simmons. Lol @ Vince’s lack of basketball acumen double lol @ Modi’s Tracy Murray mention just because I hadn’t heard that name in a minute.
Btw, Caron Butler is the heart and soul of this team not Antawn Jamison.
Go Bulls. Derrick Rose for ROY.
Comment by Joe D. 11.12.08 @ 7:53 pmDon’t get me wrong I love Obama. But this sounds like some anti-Christ type shit. I know they tried to say this about like every pres but damn the tatoos tho? Mark of the beast? Ring a bell? No? Did you read my article? http://jazzybooboo.blogspot.com/2008/10/obama-anti-christ.html
I wasn’t sure what to think about it and I’m hoping it’s not true but.. this tatoo thing is scaring me.
Comment by JazzyBooBoo 11.12.08 @ 8:14 pmyoure right. tough juice. get gilbert the fuck off our team. we want kobe. immediately.
Comment by modi 11.12.08 @ 8:15 pmWHAT MAP?!?! What map are the Wizards on? the first round loss map? Iverson took a team to the FINALS… BY HIMSELF. I defy to without looking it up on the internet name 3 of the 4 other starters on that team. Iverson has been puttin up those numbers since day one and he plays tougher than ANYBODY in the league and stays healthy din it. Second, Iverson def. averages more assists but that’s beside the point. As much as i can appreciate you being a fan of a man when he’s down I just don’t see Gilbert putting as much effort into it as any of you fans. He really doesn’t care. How can you not see that? He dropped his contract under the guise of freeing cap room, took the new deal and immediately had an “optional” surgery that no one knew anything about til the day after he signed. It’s a business to them, i understand that. But it’s still a game to me and I expect you to play it. Gilbert is a scorer on a team full of team oriented players. I think the wizards would be better off with the cap room he frees up than him and his fragile self chillin on the sidelines. Apparently he doesn’t think the team deserves the choice. On top of all of this he has the nerve to do stuff to draw attention to himself. It’s like he wants everybody to know he doesn’t care. The only thing a hurt player can do is hurt the team. It would be better for him to shut up and enjoy those court side seats.
Comment by che 11.12.08 @ 8:43 pmthe map im referring to is the national stage. aside from the jordan experiment the wizards were never on national television. no espn games, no abc games, no tnt, not even nbc back when they used to show games. no all stars. nothing. gil came and put the wizards in the conversation. helped people recognize the wizards as contenders. and to answer your question about that finals team eric snow (been on 3 finals teams), dikembe mutombo, toni kukoc (been on 7 finals teams), were on that just to name a few. and he didnt take them to the finals by himself. they were struggling until they traded for mutombo AND THEN they made a push to the finals. im not bashing iverson by any means, im a fan of his too, just saying that before he got hurt, gil was in the same realm as some of the top players.
also iverson has only played 2 complete season in his career. he’s the guard equivalent of shaq. and what does toughness have to do with being a top player anyway? you can be tough as nails and still ride the bench all season (jahidi white).
all im saying is believe he’ selfish all you want. you don’t know your just speculating out of hate. believe the team is better off without him all you want. keep in mind that when he was healthy the team was No. 1 in the east and fell to like 6 when he got hurt and hasn’t been able to get higher than that ever since. i think a team with a 100% healthy butler, arenas and jamison is better than a team with daniels, butler and jamison. as was the case 2 years ago when they were dominating detroit in the east. you just praised iverson for being a scorer on a team full of team oriented players but you say gilbert is bad for being that? hmmmm. realize that you’re posing the “selfish” argument about gilbert that everyone was bashing iverson for back in the “we talkin bout practice days” yet you hail iverson and trash gilbert. and i won’t even get into all the ways iverson drew attention to himself back then.
Comment by THE Nick Simmons 11.12.08 @ 11:17 pmyeah…gilbert’s still fucking insane. a gil tattoo? i can’t wait for a pic of that bitch to float to the net.
Comment by modi 11.12.08 @ 11:20 pmhttp://www.nbcwashington.com/sports/basketball/Gilberts-Change-We-Believe-In.html
here it is. I agree he has fallen off and needs to work his way back up to the top. Why the phuck is his name still on All Star ballots???????????
Comment by SMee 11.13.08 @ 4:45 pmWow I found this place on Yahoo poking around for something else entirely, and now I’m going to need to go back and go all the old material. So much for
Comment by electronic cigarettes 02.01.12 @ 10:26 pmHands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.
